  1. Well now that i have finished applying how long should i wait to wet sand/buff? And also what grit should i start at?
  2. I have just sprayed a few coats of minwax poly and it comes out in very thick amounts. Whats the best way to get a good look out of it. ( how to get it glass like)
  3. Once i saw a guitar that was completly wrapped in melted together vinyl records. It was very cool looking
  4. I thought i would start a thread about any non conventional finishes anyone has tried (meaning not with paint or dyes).
  5. "your finish is not hard enough to get a "dipped in glass" buff-out. This can happen if the material is just too soft (for example, Tru Oil can be buffed but not quite as hard as poly), or it was thinned with the wrong material (never thin with mineral spirits...), or it hasn't cured long enough to harden completely." So if i were to use brush on poly (minwax) could i get a hard easily buffable finish? (sory i dont know how to quote
  6. How Long or how many times did you polish it?
  7. I am currently using maguiers swirl free polish. Is this something that takes several uses to get a good shine ( i am polishing by hand)?
  8. once i got down to the color coats i reapplied the clear. Does this mean that i should start over with the sanding process or begin where i left off which is 1000 wet sanding
  9. The streaks are visible after the damp cloth, the paper started at 400 and went up to 2000, and i did a little wet sanding
  10. Well actually kp i came across your turtorial and followed all of the steps - but the large white marks still remain even though the finish is somewhat smoother
  11. when i sand i get white almost streaks across the guitar. (its a black guitar) Does this mean that the surface isnt level and i should keep sanding? (this is after the clear has been applied by the way)
  12. well ive applied a coat or 2 of the clear and well it hasnt done much. Should I keep applying?
  13. As i spray gloss black spray paint there are some spots that seem to "shine" more (build up). Would the clear coat possibly give it an even shine or do i need to take other steps?
  14. I'm using painters touch black spray paint should i be sanding between color coats? - Thanks
  15. I like the faint yellow bands - really goes with the relic style
  16. Sorry for the misunderstanding but there is paint on it already - The help is much appreciated
  17. im looking for the quick fast and cheap. I have lost almost all of my patience with this and truely do not want to strip the paint 1 more time
  18. well i think that the big problem is with the actual wood. Even though i sanded it allthe way up it still seems to have marks that always show through even though they are shallow. could tons of coats possibly take care of that??
  19. After having tried 3 times (painting) with awful scratchy looking results the future of my project guitar is bleak. There are always scratches that surface and uneveness. If anybody knows as to what i could do for a fool proof finish it would be incredibly helpful.
  20. Have you ever heard anything about the painters touch clear?
  21. I am going to do a cheap spray paint finish and was wondering if gloss paint was better than flat or non gloss.
  22. the rerranch stuff- also there are some dark spots ( im not staining it) but could these also be a problem? ( the wood is pine)
  23. After applying the grain filler to my guitar i noticed that all of the pores are still visible. will the grain filler begin to work overnight or should i be able to notice a difference after a half hour?
  24. I recentlty (12/11/08) ordered some grain filler from ReRanch and it hasnt even shipped yet. also nobody answers the phone when i call and there inbox is always full so i cant leave a message. Is this normal shipping time for them or have i been cheated?? -Thanks
