  1. Definitely check the battery!

I think you also have either a short to ground somewhere or the pickups just aren't getting any power. Being that the sound is really clean means that the internal preamps aren't switching on to boost the power from the relatively low-powered passive section of the pickup.

I really wish EMG would use color diagrams because it seems every few weeks there's a noob on here who can't make sense of their stupid black and white PDFs.

Hey yeah the schematics don't seem the same as the Duncans/Dimarzios I looked at installing and kinda wish I had gone with. Then again I think I should have got some more knowhow under my belt before trying to do this.

The multimeter, I didn't get, will have to look into getting one, just brought a soldering iron and jumped right in. (Prepares self for flaming lol)

Cheers lads I'll let you know how things go.

  2. Hey, I got the connectors on all the way. Just a case of bad planning. Now the sund is perfectly clear, but when I go straight to my amp with it, its not driving the amp, the overdrive channel, although it has full gain, which works with my duncan equipped jackson, is almost completely clean.

I'm thinking this may have been too big a project to do for a newbie?

  3. can't see anything about them ot being keyed! maybe there's just something stopping it going on all the way - indicating that it's reversed? anyway, we all agree to try switching it the other way round yes?

Hey, just tried switching it round the other way and it still doesn't go all on, and doesn't sound completely right. Though it is only about a millimetre away from going on completely. The distortion still isn't right and it still buzzes when I touch the pickup itself or any of the mounting screws.

  4. Check the connectors on the back of the pickups to make sure they're plugged in the right way, then check the connections on the output jack.

Hey daft question, which ways do the connectors go on the back on the pickups, they seem to go on either way. With the 85, which seems hte problem pickup, it doesnt go all the way on, and I'm unsure about forcing it

  5. Hey, I just finished installing my EMG 81/85 into my westfield les paul. But when I play through my amp, the sound keeps cutting, wont play with any gain whatsoever and when I touch the 85, which is in bridge position, it buzzes. It was my first installation, so I'm completely at aloss to what is wrong. Any suggestions?

  6. I just looked at the Mighty Mite site and the Motherbucker has 4 conductor wires - the blue is hot and the black is ground and the red / white are soldered together. Since you are making an SG, I'm assuming you have 2 volume and 2 tone knobs and a 3 position switch. As an example, here is a diagram for that configuration from the Seymour Duncan site that includes a coil split. The conductor color references will be different so you need to follow the MM ones. There are lots of diagrams on this site so you can pick the one that meets your needs. Hope this helps.

Hey, seems to make sense to me. Just two more q's:

    - With this being a coil split and mine not. Would it mean that as opposed to the push pull switch being wired to the red and white wires, I just solder them together much the same as the neck pu?

    - What is the ground pooint in an SG? Or will it be marked?

  7. the two wires that get soldered together just stay together, wrap them in electric tape or heat shrink tubing to isolate the two wires from the rest of the electronics

Thanks Nitefly, what about the HOT and GROUND wires? Sorry this is my first time and I can't seem to find any decent tutorials on the motherbucker. If it helps they are blue and black.

  8. Hey, I've just ordered a set of Mighty Mite Motherbuckers for my SG. Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for some schematics. I have been on the Mighty Mite site, but not quite clear on which wires go where. Ie two wires get soldered together but it doesn't show where they go from there.....

    Any pointers?

  9. Hey thanks all, the feedback stops when I dampen the strings as far as I know to. Can't turn down teh amp though coz I have to keep up with one loud drummer lol. Yeah it is MD-2 I got, very nice pedal, does its job really well, especially when you step to it from a zoom 606. I hear the MT-2 is good, but haven't heard one yet.

  10. Hey, I don't put gain on the amp, all done through the trusty boss md-2 pedal. It seems that this is the prob sometimes, as if I'm standing too close to the amp, even when its 10-15 feet away.

  11. Hey, I have bought a neck for my project guitar which is a 22 fret kramer copy. Only problem is the project guitar is a 21 fret neck. I'm not sure whether the new one will fit into it. So if it doesn't, any tips on changing the neck pocket to suit?

    Thanks

  12. Hey, I'm playing an Iaenz rg170dx and when I'm practicing, I keep geting feedback. I seem to get feedback even if I'm about 10-12 feet away from the amp. I just wanna know if this is a pickup problem or whether it's supposed to happen. It stops when I switch off my distortion pedal.

    Any ideas?

  13. Hey, I was going to buy an ibanez style neck for my strat bodied project gutiar. Then I found out it was too wide for the neck pocket I have as it has 3 extra frets. Can anyone tell me where I can get a reasonably priced neck the same size as a standard 21 fret neck pocket?

    Thanks

  14. Hey I am ordering a new pickguard and pickups, but because the guard is 3xsingle coils, I am looknig for somethin that will match the output of a humbucker. I have been told I can get single sized buckers. I need something suitable for rock music which at the minute is somewhere between system of a down and rage against the machine. Any ideas? I have been told holy grail lace sensor 1500's are as powerful as most humbuckers...any opinions???

  15. Hey, I'm working on an encore strat bodied project guitar. So far it's been painted and I'm looknig at parts to continue. One problem I have is that it was 3 single coil pickups and I want a humbucker in the bridge. It looks like there's space for one there, anyone know without seeing it whether I can do it? Or would you have to see a pic. I can send pics if need be.
