  1. Psh!! Fine then! I'll stick to my marbilizer though! I know you know what you are doing and talking about, though. There are many ways to do it.

Youre way is very cool, one way to do it is to use different coloured metallics like golds greens and blues marbilised on top of one and other before applying the candy, that way you get different tones of the candy as it goes over the other colors, if you know what i mean.

  2. Ive got something similar, its just a nicely finished ugly guitar,Im also pondering the size of the cans u are planning on opening with that thing, they must be f@#$ing huge!!!!Maybe u could place it inside one of those huge cans and then seal it back up for the safety of mankind! lol

  3. Update! Spent all day down the basement, as well as the past couple days. Here's what I've done:

    -chopped off headstock

    -cut a new scarf joint

-glued on a piece of walnut for the headstock, a la scarf option #2

-sanded the walnut down to match the fretboard surface.

-made aneck taper template with 42mm-53mm taper

-used the template attached to the neck blank to run against the router bit

-shaved down the neck/tenon with the router

-cut off the bulk of the headstock shape. I've decided on a traditional 6il Ibanez-styled headstock, like my other two

The walnut looks pretty snazzy as part of the neck, as well as the headstock. The walnut piece continues for about 3" under the fretboard/nut. I hope the walnut will help to tame some of the highs on those first few frets when I play open chords :D

The taper goes the whole length of the tenon, which is about 3" longer than the fretboard. By having an angled tenon, I'm hoping to add some strength to the join as well as make it easier to pass the Perry-approved neck joint test :D

I like the Ibanez 6 inline headstock myself, and also luv a bevelled RG!

I'm devising a plan to use the template/jig for cutting the neck taper template, and work it into a jig that would cut my truss rod channel on the router table. I think I've almost got it figured out...

Next on the list is get out the spindle sander and take down the headstock to thickness, then cut and sand it to shape. Or maybe just cut it to rough dimensions, in case it gets a bump along the creative process way.

I took pics, but don't have the adaptor to get them off my cell phone. Will rectify next week when I get back to the dorm.

  4. Nice build bro, what 2 pak did you end up using ie brand etc how easy was it to buff and polish ? reason is I am looking at doing a 2pak finish on my next build and any advice always greatly appreciated CHEERS!

My work uses chem-spec paints but any descent quality two pack paint would be fine,as far as polishing goes theres no need as two pack paints retain a full gloss straight off the gun.Its a great product but is not for the inexperienced, very toxic, and easy to get paint runs grrrrrrrr! I used an extra fast hardener for this one cause of the complex shape of the horns,it drys quicker and hence less time for runs and sags to form.Good luck.

  5. Thought Id put up some pics showing the process I used to refinish the guitar.

bare wood,34o8r3o.jpg Two pack primer 4 coats , after being blocked back to get it truly level with more primer, next two pack black 3 coats16iiip0.jpg,after sanding back with 800 grit paper I masked and applied the the red bevilsrc9ehc.jpg,After applying the graffix I then gave it 2 coats of two pack clear, mocked up to see the final look.2s9py6c.jpg,then another rub with 1200 grit paper and one final finishing coat of extra thinned two pack clearnyzcew.jpg5acl2.jpgAnd finally finished! :D

  6. Here in Aus we have alot of cars that have faux chrome mouldings through the front and rear bumper bars,it is quite flexible and should work for what u need,i dont know what it would be called over there, but over here its called" protector strip",walk into any crash repairer and ask them about it,it comes in different widths from about 3.5 mm to much larger,it also has an adhesive backing which makes it easy to apply, its easy to cut with a sharp knife, also try any car accsesory place good luck!...PS u wont believe its not metal, very realistic.

  7. Anybody....anybody...anybody...?

If you're going to go with skull knobs, look up the web site for Dreadmeister ... a guy called Sid in New Zealand. He has skull knobs and tuners that are fair dinkum ... not like a lot of the 'toy' stuff you see around.

    :D

Hey thanks for that, not sure about skull knobs or black ones from an rg,anyone feel like expressing theyre opinion, would be appreciated. :D

  8. That is one awesome guitar metz. Can you say guitar of the month? Are you going to get some skull knobs?

I was tossing up whether to get scull knobs or just go with some black ones from an rg, also maybe some new tuners in cosmo or black.

P.S does anyone know if ican get a black Ibanez Fat 10 trem, thought I might bail the chrome look atogether???

  9. The problem is it's not a spatter technique at all. Its a flake or effect paint like HOK's Metajules.

Simple if your used to spraying flake, but flake is at least 2 sessions, not 2 coats, of clear to be able to bury and then level sand and polish. There are some other tricks to it as well. Plus lots of extra time cleaning the booth because flake goes everywhere, spray it outside a booth and you'll be finding it for years.

You really see how much flake there is in this pic:

    Petrucci_Blue_Dawn_Sparkle_1.jpg

Thought I might add that when I use these larger flakes I apply two coats of HS clear then once cured, I rub it back flat with 800 grit paper and reapply one wet coat of clear this is referred to as flowcoating.Flowcoating gives a mirror flat finish straight off the gun as all of this flattening off and polishing just seems too time consuming to me.

  10. I'm personally not too keen on the decal on the back of the fretboard, but that said, I admire the effort you have done for that.

I don't think that's a decal, which makes it even cooler that he went through the trouble to mask all that off perfectly. I think it looks great!

When you did the red, did you spray it or pinstripe it? Either way looks awesome.

Id like to say thanks for all the feedback on this one,Im proud to say that all of the red work (flames & pinstriping) was masked and spayed by hand,I did contemplate redoing the neck just black again but keeping the pinstripe (deleting the flames) just keep in mind I intend to paint the cavity covers in the same red as the flames,do u guys think the back would look better that way...let me know :D:D
