  1. Ok so I Glued the top to the body and sanded to shape. but before doing so I had an accident. the Top fell from the work table and broke the top horn. I couldn't get it to fit back right so I had to cut a new piece and add it in I don't think it will be to noticeable in the end. I did my best to line up the grain and figure. next I will be routing for the cream binding I am going to use. I'm tired of the natural figure curly band showing. time for a change. then time to carve the top. still waiting on my truss rod should get it tomorrow.
  2. yeap I know them. I got my wood for this build from Exotic woods before the moved to their new location. A & M is where I got my wood for my first build. I find Exotic to be nicer wood and selection and cheaper then A & M. but thats me. I swing buy A & M tomorrow.
  3. I didn't think of A & M because last time I was there they didn't have any. Just Abalone but thanks for the heads up. will pick some up on my way to Tillsonberg.
  4. I use Slinky top heavy bottoms 10 - 52 on all my guitars so I think this thing is going to growl. of course my amp helps
  5. Wow thats some expensive stuff. anywhere else. maybe a canadian supplier?
  6. Hey where do you guys and gals get your inlay material? Thanks
  7. If thats the case then you'll be seeing more of them. Do you want to see them with or without socks?
  8. Well in standing with PRS It is 25" scale. Thats what you would get from them if you ordered a Private Stock 7 String. it's all good though.
  9. Ok I've finally got all my wood and am starting my second build. 10. I'm using a 1.25" x 4" x 35' piece of curly maple for the neck with a rosewood fretboard. Thanks for the input I think I will put CF rods in after all.
  11. Hey Guys and Gals I'm in the process of building my second Guitar. Its going to be a PRS 7 String style. My question is do I need to put 2 carbon fiber neck rods in the neck along with the Truss rod for more support? or is it over kill? I will be using a Light top heavy bottom set of strings. And if I do need them do the have to be Carbon fiber and do you know where I can get them besides Stu MAc? Thanks
  12. That looks like the one but I want the 7 string. so it should be the same depth Thanks. I have all the other dimensions for it now just needed that one Thanks.
  13. I deal with Fraiser Valley too good necks and tops for cheap.
  14. Thanks guys I sent them a message hope they get back to me soon.
  15. looking fantastic, Great work there Peter
  16. I'm in the process of buying my wood for my second project which is going to be a seven string. I want to use the new & String Hipshot US contour tremolo bridge. But I can't find the dimensions of it or even the 6 string version online. I need to know the depth of it so I can calculate the guitars thickness and therefore my body blanks thickness. If someone here has one of these and can give me the total dimensions of everything or give me a link to a site that has a drawing that would be great. Thanks
  17. I'm going to be in Ireland in 10 days. It's going to be good to gp home for a week. welcome. How's Tricks?
  18. Very nice work. can't wait to see it done. I'm in the process of buying my wood for my second project. which is also going to be a 7 string.
  19. wow very nice I was going to make one that attaches to my drill press. But Great work.
  20. Well it could be a while before I get those pickups. My reason for picking them is their the closest to what John Petrucci uses. Should be good. Thanks for the comments guys. I used my automotive spray gun and clear to get the great finish. Used a dye called colourfx. It's the same as transtint, but easier to get in Canada.
  21. Fixed the pics. So I plan on getting DiMarzio Steve's Special and a Norton air for it. Going to have a 3 way switch and 2 volumes no tone's. but if I don't like it I will go with 2 dual pots and the 3 way.
  22. Ok seeing I got laid off I've had tons of time to work on my project. to the point that I finished it basically. I just need my pickups and a truss rod cover that I will start today. oh yeah forgot to mention it plays great. Heres the pics.
  23. Got a lot done today on the guitar. Cut all the cavities for the pickups and the controls on the back. Also cut the neck pocket and glued the neck and body together. Next is to drill the hole for the side jack and then the holes for the pickup leads.
  24. no experience in wood working just very handy and an*l at times. Well that's what my wife would say. I plan on giving it a purple dye and a black back and headstock. Think I will leave a thin bead of maple natural around the outside, like on a prs. The back control plate is also going to be natural maple.
  25. Got some time today to work on the top. finished the carve. marked the placement of the neck pocket and the pickup cavities. Also the Bridge placement. Then drilled the holes for the pot controls, and contoured them to the body. Next is to router out the control cavity on the back and then the top neck pocket and then the pickup cavities. So what do you think so far?
