  1. Wow - just to hijack the thread momentarily! - the Church are still going?! Whacko; boy I liked 'em when I was living in Aussie what seems like a century ago!! Anyway, I wouldn't class any of Al Stewart's stuff as simplistic by any means and the thing to remember about Jethro Tull is that Martin Barre plays most of the really tricky stuff on guitar!!
  2. Well, thanks, man - I guess you're right!! Yeah, I hope so too....
  3. Um, I don't think so - that's how I saved it?! I didn't know you could save at higher resolutions - I'm not much of a computer head, really!
  4. Al Stewart's Year of the cat, Time passages, On the border and Roads to Moscow; any of the Stones' acoustic numbers, and I like playing and singing some of the earlyish 'torch' songs like Rag doll, You don't own me, son of a preacher man etc. etc. etc. Most of these are good singer/guitarist songs and are always well received at gigs, in my experience!! have fun....
  5. Well, I'm here so shall share some of my work, which compared to most of you fellas is very basic indeed... I have to confess that I am Matsumoku fan in general and a Westone fan specifically so most of my work involves acquiring bent models and restoring 'em... This is a Westone Clipper, - one of a pair that I have - that arrived with a lifting fretboard, scrambled electrics, no nut, plenty of dings and scratches and munted hardware. You know, the usual "good condition" guitar of an auction site!! After quite a bit of finicky work, application of various glues, bits and sweat I wound up with a(nother) very nice super-tele which was supposed to be sold on to make the wife happy, but hasn't quite made it yet! I even managed to find a complete Bendmaster bridge here in NZ for less than a kings ransom, so sometimes you do have a win!! I have an Electra X195 in a blueburst finish that needed a little TLC - usual stuff, knobs, nut etc - and needs the paint re-done too, but I'm loathe to touch it as it is, again, a little beyond me! I'm happy to do anything on a guitar apart from the fancier paint finishes!! This is it with my Westone Spectrum GT, which was in very good nick...
  6. Ahh! Right, something to actually call it - excellent! Now to find some to actually do it! Thanks, MK!!
  7. well. thanks guys... yeah, I've been down the scrap timber finished to the same as the guitar and having a go myself, but have reached the uncomfortable realisation that I'm just not good enough to do it! I tried the smear technique which showed promise in my hands because of the necessary slowness(!) but my airbrush skills are right up there with my giving birth skills - I don't have an artistic bone in my body! So I may have to farm this one out to someone who IS good enough! Oh, and the finish includes the scratchplate... For those that are interested, it's not a 'built from the ground up' project, merely a restoration of a 1980's guitar that had been scrapped as useless because of neck and electrical problems, which I've sorted after a bit of head scratching and reading of much information! I can't help thinking that finding this site a year and a half ago would have made life SO much easier!!
  8. Yep; 'fraid so!! However, I am gobsmacked by what people in here are doing; absolutely dumbstruck!! I am not even close to this league but have a strat-thing that I'm building up on the bench so will be looking for input eventually...(I work very slowly!!). The main sticking point at the moment is the paintwork which I have designed but have no idea how to execute (damn you, adobe paintshop!!); even the local car painters took a long hard look and rubbed their jaws, with a long intake of breath through pursed lips... ...all of the preparatory work has been done, and the gloss white has been applied so that I'm just awaiting to do the "feathers". Any ideas, people?
