  1. I got a litte bit more done today. Finished off the binding on the fb, cut the neck taper and glued the fb down.

I also thinned out the headstock on the bandsaw. I cut about 3mm off each side and then sanded it a little bit. Came out perfect.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who shows off the rough stuff. :D I love the look of this so far !

keep it rollin like this and you'll be holding a winner at the end.

Thanks mate. Its coming along alrite so far. Im sure itll turn out real nice

  2. Time for a new build. I got my new bandsaw last week. I bought the carbatec CTJ3501 14" from sydney tools. I dont know how ive lasted this long with out one. Its got heaps of power and a nice big table and can resaw up to 200mm..

Now that the bandy is up and running, im starting a new build

    Mahogany neck and body

    Bloodwood fingerboard

    27.5" scale

    Floyd rose

    Setneck

Not sure on pickups just yet

Just got the body routed, truss rod router, fingerboard is tapered and fret slots cut.

I used .5mm black veneer and .5mm bloodwood veneer for the binding. The pics dont show it too well but it came up really good

  3. Dude, this is awesome! I've just started making a JP7 with an ash body and birdseye maple neck/fretboard... I hope it turns out half as good as this! How did you find the arm contour carve? I've been wondering how difficult this will be.

Wheres the thread?? As the name suggests, Im a bit of a fan lol..

Thats a really nice build for a first go. Put my first to shame!

Those measurements you gave could come in handy too!!

  4. Yea time sorta got away from me. It turned out ok in the end. I used a 7 string strat trem. I think I might block the trem but cos I dont like it..Ill try post final pics tonite...Wheres the progress on this one turtles???

Didn't you have problems with the paint Floody, my man??

    Pics and an explanation please.

    :D

HAHAHA look what the cat dragged in!!!

Long time no see old man hahaha!

I did have problems with the paint. It developed some cracking.. Never got a definitive answer as to why though..Still havent bothered to repaint it. It sure plays well but lol.

So where have you been daddyo?

  5. I've been looking around and I believe that a Bugera may be my best bet because I really don't want to spend a lot and they sound pretty killer for the price, but I will invest in a good EQ and some other pedals to make everything sound it's best.

Welcome to the club. I dont use an eq at the moment and it sounds great..Having said that, I think ill buy one soon. I seem to be reading everywhere how good they are

  6. There was another guy building one of these about this time last year but the thread kind of died.

On the xiphos i built (the green one of first page) I roughed it using a flap disc on an angle grinder and the sanded..On my V before that, I used a rasp for all of it. Rasp is better in my opinion

I guess It was you I was talking about KP. :D You gotta finish up that thread man! Evidently you have the progress pics, at least show us the final result! What did you end up using for the bridge?

  7. The very most, and even this is a stretch, would probably be around 1300, but really I would like to spend less than that because I'm going to be building a 2x12 for it as well. I want a tube amp, around 50-120W would be more than I could ever need, but good since I can keep the master volume low enough to not piss off everybody in the house and the neighbors. I would like 3 channels, but wouldn't mind something like a 6262 with gain on the clean and a crunch button (don't know if I could get an amp guy to mod that to work with a footswitch for 3 channels, but it would be worth a shot, yet not a big deal). I've looked a lot at the 6262 because of the price, yet I really don't know. I really do not want to have to spend a fortune to get a somewhat versatile palette of tones. I've heard good and bad things about bugeras, but if it breaks, I could probably fix their cheap chinese wiring myself rather than return it, or buy another and still be under the price for a real peavy amp. I wish their new dual rec clone was out.

Ive had mine for a year and had no problems at all..And its switchable between 6l6 and el34's..and 5 tubes in the preamp compared to only 4 in alot of amps..It really is a very ballsy amp! And the quality seems pretty high to me.

  8. Ive got the 6262. The bugera line is pretty much modeled after the peaveys. The 6262 is similar to a 5150..Alot of people actually say the 6262 is better..More bottom end. Apparently the 5150 has too much treble.

I suggest you give one a try. Im sure you'll like it

  9. I could possibly get shot down for this but try a bugera valve head. I think they sell them in the states..Im from Australia and i got mine for $900. Its really nice on the cleans, has a mild distortion channel and then a lead for full blown metal. I play loads of metal through it and can tell you that u wont be disappointed!

  10. Hey looking good man. Love the accent in the scarf joint. I love the xiphos too. I love every Ibanez actually lol. I made a Xiphos a while back.

Im sure yours will turn out better than mine. My timbers were crap as it was my second build..

    Your neck looks sweet!!

  11. hmm looks like no one is interested lol...oh well...

I routed the body this arvo. Havent done the neck and pup rout cos i havent got my template yet. It turned out pretty good today. Way better than my first build!!

Ill hopefully rout the truss rod tomorrow and stick the fb on. I will order a radius sanding block this weekend i guess so i can slot the board next week... Anyway here's a couple of pics of the body..
