  1. Thanks fella's. This was one of my first builds, but it took a lot of correcting to see it to where it is now.

Still needs : a TR cover ,my logo re-burned and some black paint in the sound-holes.

    here's some more shots:

You can see the cherry "binding" I used as one of the saves . I fudged up the fretboard and had to recover.

    and thats that.

It has a different tone than my solid-body guitars and I learned a LOT from this build so ugly or not - I still dig it.

  2. I started a heavily chambered build back in November of 2009. The forum crash lost all the posts , but the thing is finally done despite numerous mistakes and multiple shelvings.

I considered scrapping the whole project many many times. Now that its done and strung up, I'm glad I kept on with it.

    Here's some history:

internet is acting odd. will continue in a bit..........

  3. Now where's the fun in THAT?!? guitar wiring is painfully simple. If you're getting nothing from the jack, it must be grounding out along the line somewhere.

Try wiring direct to a cord from the pups. If that works, you know it aint the pups. did you use sheiding tape?

  4. I purchased an Allparts EP 4486_000 to use as a coil split on a recent build. It's an odd pot, having three prongs up top like a normal pot, but the bottom is where I'm confused. It has two prongs sticking out of a black plastic cap under the "normal" pot. Not your typical DPDT switch underneath like I'm used to.

Searching has turned up nothing, and on the Allparts website, it shows the 4486 as a DPDT under a normal pot. which it is not. :/

anyone have any experience with this pot or have any idea why there's two prongs instead of three??

  5. Some of your build techniques are very similar to mine. We both use minimal tools to work the boards down to what we need. jointers, planers and sanders would be great, but I don't have them, so hand sawing, jigsawing and chiseling are used instead.

I have found that a circular saw makes neck shaping much simpler, since its easier to cut a long straight line than a jigsaw. Same with body cutouts, you can use the circ saw to chop away most of the excess body, then the jigsaw doesn't tend to wander off.

I really like the backwards logos on the headstock. 1 cool point for that one. :)

  6. OurSouls- you might be thinking of the high E tuned version. It comes in either 18.5" for D tuning or 16.3" for E tuning.

    From his website-

"The Gryphon is available tuned to D (equivalent to the 10th fret of a standard guitar) or in a shorter scale version that is tuned E - a full octave higher than standard.

The acoustic Gryphon's unique range comes from its short scale length (18.5" for D-tuning, 16.3" for E-tuning)"

hence my confusion...... on a 25.5" scale, it's only bout 14.25" to the 10th fret. 18.5 would be somwhere between the 5th and 6th.

so I'm guessing it's only equal in pitch, not actual scale length. Takes

me a bit sometimes, but I catch on.

Regardless- have a blast with it. It'll be coo when it's done. :)
