I sprayed a can of black nitro over my alder strat, after i sprayed sand and sealer, and sanded to 320...When i sprayed my first clear coat Some spots turned greyish... is this normal? What did I do wrong? please help

there's a switch missing off of that Gilmour Black strat pic.
Thats weird there should be a 2 way toggle switch just in front of the volume nob. but maybe it was added after your year to relic it after. it was installed and used on "WISH YOU WERE HERE" for the Shine on you crazy Diamond songs. It turns all 3 pickups on at once if I remember correctly.
its there... its tiny, its the MINI silver thing right next to volume knob... Its on my pickguard as well. It turns the neck pickup on in the first 3 positions... so if you put the 5 way in the middle with the mini toggle on u have all pickups working at once.. it sounds amazingly warm and HOT HOT HOT in the bridge position, with the toggle on...

I checked at the local harbor freight, and they have .5 ton, and a 1 ton arbor press in stock. Which would be the best option for fret pressing? The .5 ton is 29.99, and I will order the cauls/radius bars from stewmac, and have them drilled and setup just like stewmacs.

Have you not tried looking for one yet?
Stewmac....
Stewmac discontinued them... thanks for your two cents though.

Don't buy the arbor press from Stewmac. You can get virtually the same press from Harbor Freight for less than half the money. All you have to do is bore out the ram to accept the caul, and drill and tap a hole for a set screw to hold the caul in.
What do you do about the self leveling caul thing, is that something you could purchase? Or is it not really all that important. I borrowedf a buddies arbor from stewmac, and i really didnt like how the self leveling thing was all over the place, and had to line up perfectly... I just figured that it was necessary.

Well like the title says I need a fret press, with cauls.

I HATE YOU!!!! You had that GORGEOUS orange running through your black limba and you put it on the side that's going to get COVERED UP!?!??!?!
Chris
LOL well that was accidental!!! I used the wrong template face!!!! Im pissed at myself for it
I believe that even the hero himself, Melvyn, did the exact same thing during the first edition of his book.
Steve - Making mistakes is awesome! There is no better teacher around. Just try not to make the same mistake twice - go and look for new mistakes to make.
And remember 'mistake' is a latin word meaning 'custom'; all of my guitars are seriously customized!
Cheers

Lol thats why my other build is on hold. Its basically ready to be finished, so I want to get them all ready to be finished at the same time, cxause i hqve to pay to use the paint booth and sprayers and such.

What kind of tone is he looking for ?
Would help in the final decision on woods if there was a type of sound he wanted. Koz if hes lookin for bright & snappy you can forget it with this combination.
Ask him what he wants tone wise, You know the usual examples - Strat, Tele, Les paul, Jem bla bla bla. It would help build a better guitar overall, as opposed to just visually.
Personally, Id definitly go with the Black Korina & maple body. Especially if there is lots of that funky orange streaking in the Korina. Cant realy go wrong there. But the neck & board need looking into further.
He specifiically requested a indian rosewood neck, but left the fingerboard choice up to me. I was thinking either ebony, or ziricote, but i could handle a rosewood fingerboard.
