  1. Okay, thanks haha. I should've known that..
  2. I feel slightly childish and ignorant here, but what exactly is laminated mahogany? XD It is a single piece though And yeah, the frets and the fretboard were included with the pre-made neck: http://www.guitarpartsusa.com/item--Les-Pa...r-Neck--PROD472
  3. Hey, I was just curious if you have any tips for making the neck pocket more sharp/"90* Angleish, since the guitar Im building now is also using a neck that isn't curved on the end corners... Hopefully the wording of this isn't confusing you.. xP. Thanks a lot!
  4. Alright guys, thanks a lot! Yeah, I wasn't entirely sure I had the right center line for the body, which was the main problem, but I hadn't thought of extending the fretboard, so to speak, and just getting it as close to aligned as possible before hand. I really appreciate it!
  5. Hey, I'm working on my first build (Which can be found here: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=43533) And I'm honestly not 100% that I'm lining the neck up completely straight with the body.. Does anyone have any tips for ensuring correct neck alignment? Thanks a lot!
  6. First update in a bit! I really wanted to make sure I had the template just like I wanted it before using it on the mahogany, so I've been shaping that up for a while. I made the lower horn a bit smaller and just rounded the curves out on a bunch of parts. When I felt it was as good as I was going to get it, I traced the body onto the mahogany and cut out a rough version of the it with the jigsaw. Then, I taped the template down (Veerryyy thoroughly) and made the first pass with the router, since the body is 1.75" thick and my blade is unfortunately only 1" in length. I had a picture of the body at this point, but unfortunately, that camera left for Aruba this morning. Here's the body after the second pass, where I just used the precut upper half of the body as the new template. I'll be doing a lot of sanding tonight! Cheers.
  7. Wow... Seriously, I've read through countless threads on here, but your work is by far the most thorough, clean, efficient, and just "followable" that I've ever seen. You have all of these great innovative solutions to things most of us have labeled as guesswork. Keep up the great work, man! I can't describe how helpful your incredibly in-depth posts are to someone like me who's just starting out and is trying to learn everything they can so they don't make any major mistakes. Not that I won't end up making any, I'm sure.. But, thanks a ton for all of the effort you put into your posts, and really, your work in general. And by the way, I love the flame and purple finish on this one!
  8. I just checked those out; the body itself does look a good bit like those (Minus the lower horn). I wanted to try something a little different there. Same here, it'll be the first time I've really heard them in action myself
  9. Thanks! Yeah, I'm going through these forms like crazy, checking out other people's little details and tricks, trying to make sure I have some idea of what I'm doing. I am so thankful for the internet
  10. I already made a practice version of it out of plywood, but I don't think that really counts.. The real body will be made out of mahogany, which I just received this past week.. Can't wait to start on it: (Side One) (Close up of grain) The basic idea of the shape: (The rough version of a template) And since this is my first, I decided to go with a premade neck.. . It already has the tuning keys installed from where I was testing it on the plywood. (Close UP) I'm thinking of doing a dark red or light blue stain, or just an oil-finish. All electronics and such are already here, pups are "Chrome Screamers" from guitarpartsonline.com's own brand, Dragon Fire. They've got great reviews, and for $30, I figured they were worth a shot. Anyways, just thought I'd keep everyone updated on this in case they're curious, or feel like pointing out my stupid 1st-timer mistakes.. Let's hope all goes well!
