  1. Finally, following your advice, I have redistributed the tuners and I have altered the shape of the body. The next step was to cut the body with jigsaw and then use the template and the router. Finally I glued the veneer of ebony and cedar top. Some photos:
  2. This tuner is from the right side, the direccion of the turn is the same than 3 and 4 strings
  3. +1 Gotta admit, that "scarf joint" scares the crap out of me! The headstock shape is interesting, but your tuner placement doesnt make any sense. It looks like you just drilled some arbitrary holes for the sake of being "different" and it looks like it would be difficult to turn most of the tuners. Im kinda diggin the body shape, but those horns are WAY too spread apart for my taste. It makes the "butt" of the body look tiny in comparison. and makes the whole design look unbalanced. Just my 2 cents... good luck with the build. I glued a side mahogany wings in the headstock before take the picture of the scarf joint (then the joint is hidden). In the picture of the headstock seems difficult to turn some tuners, but this is due to the angle it was taken, in fact the access is easy. The placement of the tuners is made to try that the strings do not have any angle to them. After the mockup i'm agree with you, and i think that body shape will be changed.
  4. Some progress: Scarf joint done Headstock rought cutted The neck after some routing Final shape of the headstock with tuners Neck shape The fingerboard was routed with the neck and glued, hera a mockup with the body wings template Finally, I ordered a Kent Armstrong soapbar pickup. There are 3 options, the Seymour Duncan alone, Kent Armstrong alone or both. What do you think?
  5. Hello!! First of all sorry for my english. I'm from barcelona. I'm playing bass for 3 years, but the truth is that I like to spend free time to modify my basses instead of practicing. 1 year ago finished my first bass. Not bad for being first, but after a miscalculation was uncomfortable to play . This time i will try to calculate things better and take it with more calm. The specs: - Neck-Through neck: Mahogany-Padouk-Mahogany - Body wings: Maple with a red cedar top - Fingerboard: Ebony fretless - Pickup: Seymour Duncan Precission Quarter Pound - Bridge: GHS oversized top mount bridge - Tuners: Wilkinson I do not have many tools. Currently I have a jigsaw, router, rasps, chisels ... I have no bandsaw or belt sander or drum sander. Here a picture of the wood Here the neck in gluing process. First gave the shape to the lams before gluing (because with the jigsaw was easy) Detail of the joint (I love padouk) Currently I have cut and pasted the scarf joint and I routed the truss rod channel. The next step is cut the template from a MDF board (1 cm thickness), then cut the shape of the neck and the wings with jigsaw and finish with the template and router with a ball-bearing bit (from stewmac). If you believe that I am doing something wrong or have any advice, do not hesitate to tell me.
