  1. This'll be my first guitar with decent wood, Ive tried with junky hardwood from homedepot, and with alright wood that was on sale. Neither turned out wonderful, the second is playable but doesnt sound so hot. Im pretty much in between the oh so popular JEM shape without the grip and the less popular WGD shape, with more of a cutaway for easier access. They'll be painted either white or Green, both dual humbuckers a floyd rose and a 24 fret neck. The bodies are alder and Ash. Im pretty much asking whats going to be easier. Im hoping to do it neck through style, but I'd settle for a set neck. After talking to the carpenter im working with, Would putting small dowels in the wings be a good idea? Ive never heard of this done to a guitar so I have no idea if it's going to totally ruin my sound.
  2. Is it a brighter sound? Im building a neck through, and I have a 48 inch long piece of alder, two pieces of swamp ash for wings and a maple cap for all of it. Any opinions? Im worried im going to get to much of a bouncy unstable high sound.
  3. Pretty much as the title says, Is an alder neck reasonable? Will it sound good, will it be structually stable?
  4. If your looking for a good mid range priced guitar, Schecters are great axes. I got my c1 plus for 500 with tax, its got a figured top and a great finish, coil tap, seymour duncans and nice inlays. Oh yea, it plays well too
  5. After having seen several other semi hollow's built at home, I want to do it a bit differently. Ive seen several people just putting a big cavity through the entire guitar and putting a top on it then a cover on the back. It just seems brutish to me to just take a full chunk of the guitar out. Im looking to route a cavity through the front of the guitar, then place a top over it and then put a sound hole in? Will this work or is my idea completely unfeasible. Ive been looking at bridges and Im thinking of ordering a gotoh 12 string, is there an easier one to install, as this one seems somewhat complicated. If not is this a decent bridge, Forgive me if I ask too many questions. Ive never even played an electric twelve string. I plan on using a H-S-H combination and a 6 way strat style switch to get some decent combinations. Ill use an individual tone knob for each pickup and 2 volume knobs. Any feedback is appreciated, especially if the idea just plain wont work
  6. Thanks for the welcomes, Just out of curiosity, that wouldnt mean I could only have one pickup or HB on each neck would it? Im looking at a single coil pickup and a hb on both necks.
  7. After researching for hours a day, Ive decided to take on a fairly ambitious project. A double neck 12/6 string guitar. Both set in necks. My only concern is Pickups. Am I going to need special pickups for a twelve string, Will I need two outputs, obviously two selectors. Two outputs seems the easyiest way to go seeing as this is my first two necked guitar. I was thinking of just building it as two seperate guitars that share the same body, but then I realised Id have top switch out chords. Any assistence on the subject will be greatly appreciated.
