Thats a good idea. To my knowledge there isn't a tutorial on shooting a guitar here. It there?

Fingers are good Mm'kaay?  That cover jig was built purely out of trepidation and it still freaks me out a bit when I use it. Hopefully MasterOfTheWind has a new understanding of the potential for catostrophic digit damage a router has. I'm thinking pure luck is the only reason he doesn't have a stump where that boo-boo is.  Stay safe everyone.

I've build both set necks and bolt ons and I'm in the camp that with a set neck you can achieve a much smoother and transparent to the touch transition from the neck to the body,  Comparing my own builds I can say that my bolt on builds seem to edge out my set necks for sustain and resonance but just barely. Part of that might be the fact that my bolt ons are a marriage of a mahogany and maple vs my set necks which use mahogany for both the neck and body. 

I could be wrong here but I feel the bond between the neck and body is tighter and more solidified using a bolt on method than a glued  set neck construction. If you google (and I'm sure you have) Set neck vs. bolt on you'll find hours of reading material.

After spending some time in my music room, this may be one I finally try to figure out how to sell.......unless I get to attached to it as it comes to life. That tends to happen to me. I certainly don't need any more guitars, and yet--I don't have one like this one. So far.

As far as current projects. They're going but I've just been horrible about posting lately. Seems there is always en excuse to prevent it. Two weeks ago I had a pipe burst in my house and there have been crews in my house doing repair work ever since. Sunday was the first day I've had without them in a while. I have three bolt-ons with a revised design going at the moment. I'll get off my duff and post em. Just give me some love when I do because its been a ghost town around here lately.

Crazy inlay.

Started three new builds this week. I'm doing a more traditional body shape this time and plan on these being stripped more down and straight forward with simple dot markers. (No markers on one?) I started out with some scarfed necks using some figured maple I picked up locally.

I started out with the intention of doing a three piece lamination on these but that quickly morphed into 7 piece laminates. Once they were flipped and glued they matched up close to perfect. I dont know how I ever got along without a drum sander.

These three are progressing a little faster. I think I've got roughly 16 hrs into these so far. Not to shabby.

I even have some bodies to go along with em.

Drilling the pilot hole depth for the neck thickness is a great idea. Nice job.

I was going to suggest the router sled method. Can you give some details about how the router sled rig didnt work out for you?

Thanks Scott. The binding is like that because of the availability of tall cream binding in that shade. It allows me to use the same size all the way around.

I just found this on another site. Very sad. Forum member Shad Peters shop has burnt down.
