I've been lurking for a while, figured I'd join up. I'm a member of a few other guitar related forums, and photography
some of you may recognize me - same name on the others. This looks like a pretty decent community, and I look forward to joining in.
I'm here to learn more, and asking questions, maybe even helping out, if I can. I'm particularly interested in fabric finishes for future projects.
I have a telecaster clone refin project (rangecaster, western theme) on the go right now, and am also planning a paisley on another tele thinline style later on,
I have a LP DC Jr clone, NGD a week or two ago, by Austin, which I'm toying with refinning and relicing for a '59 look - but right now it's still the honeymoon, and it's a surprisingly nice guitar just in stock form.
So far, I've recovered/rehoused/respeakered a pathfinder into this bass combo box, and rattlecanned this bridgecraft strat into the golden turdocaster,
but basically I've only been modding guitars for a year and a half or so, after playing for oh, twenty-five ish years, never professionally.
I also have been making my own waterslide decals, though I'm no pro at that either.
You won't see any scratch builds from me, but I sure enjoy watching them. This is most of my gear pictured, except what's on the bench right now.
While most of the above be considered vinegar by the cork sniffers, (other than the 335 dot RI), I value them all highly, and near equally -
because I have invested a lot of time in learning how to set them up, neck adjustment, fret leveling, crowning, carving my own nuts etc.
I could afford to have someone else do the work, but I live in the boonies in Northwest Canada, and I'm a thrifty, DIY kind of guy.
I'm looking forward to maybe getting into airbrushing in the future, and I dig making my own straps out of thrift shop belts and whatever I can
find. I'm toying with the idea of getting a heavy duty sewing machine, and some tooling tools and trying my hand at some real serious strap making.
Maybe I should join a leather forum. I know what you are thinking.... Not THAT kind of leather forum, mind you.
Anyway, that's my intro - hope to make some online friends and leech from all your know-how :D
