I recently bought this mustrang/jag stang type guitar with two single coil pick ups and two sliding switches. I got a wiring diagram off of seymour duncan and it seems to go pretty well with my guitar as of now, but i have one question.
If you click the link below it will bring you to the diagram and help you understand better.
On one of the audio pots/shafts at the bottom you see what i guess is a capacitor (if it isnt, please inform me otherwise) and it says " .05 mfd"
I checked all these onling guitar part stores and i dont see a .05 capacitor.
Help?
closes iv found is 0.047uf on axes'r'us http://www.axesrus.com/axeknobs.htm

There's quite a ton of info in that thread, I'm sure you'll find the answer to your question as well as questions you didn't even know you had in there.
iv allread been on this but i dont under stand how to do figure it out im using the same LED's as him but hes using 6 AA batterys where as im using a 9V battery so i need bigger resitors but i dont know wich ones
-
im putting 10 LEDs in my fret boared powered by a 9V battery, 12mA DC Forward Current rating and 3.5 LED voltage drop. what size resistor do i need for each LED

iv just started clear coating so guitar should be finished in about 2 weeks

I was wondering if it would be ok if i painted the back of my project guitar neck. my agile les paul has the back painted but i was also wondering if there is anything i should do while doing this.
first thing to do is mask off the fretboared then go get urself a can of primer
spray it allover the back of the neck in the appropriate way and wait for it to dry
then sand down any bumps
next spray on your coulor in thye appropriate way and wait for i to dry
and then start to lacquer it up, this take ages to dry though so be prepared to wait
-
i was just gonna clear coat it when i noticed a small bit that hadnt be cover by the paint 100% so i got my can of black paint as started to spray it but it was the last bit of the can so it spat all over the guitar body so iv had to sand a bit off and then im gonna buy some more paint and spray it again
then clear coat it
-
iv just made t thing to hang my guitar while painting it
i put a sweeping beush between to wheelie bins and a hanger in the middle and the hung the body from the hanger through the neck screw holes
so now painting is comin on very nicley
-
Also another idea, does wood on top of the pickup make a difference to the sound? Could a slit be carved out of the neck and a pickup placed litterally in the neck (minding the truss rod).
im not sure nut if you did put a pickup in a necj you would have to get some ong screw and replace the ones in the pickup allready so the can get closer to the strings, then drill 6 holes in the fret boared to fit the screws
-
ok yesterday i went to clear coat thye front of the hearstock so it turned the neck so the fretboard was facing the sky and started.
but later on i went to bring the neck in picked it up and the back of the neck had moulded itself to the table i was working on as the clear coat wasnt perfectly set when i turned it over.
so i had to sand a bit down touch up on the primer then the black and the the clear coat.
you can kindda see a dint but nothing major as im gonna wet and dry sand it then put another clear coat on it

would you ba able to post it to the uk

Ok I'm getting close to building my first neck, but I was thinking it might be a cool idea to make it 27 frets (the latter frets mainly used for harmonics and other crazy stuff).
My question- is it actually possible to make a 27 fret neck? I'm guessing yes, of course, it would be just like a 24 neck extension but longer. The scaling doesn't concern me (working it out- I'm not affraid of a bit of maths). Just checking befor I start planning such a venture. I do know it would mean you couldn't have a double humbucker body, and also an idea would be maybe to use thinner fretwire.
What do you guys think? (less of the questions as to why you need 27 frets plz).
yes this would be paossable and you could have 2 numbucjers just the neck on would sound more like a middle pickup

I think it would be cool to try and two tone one, the part with the carve being one color like white and the rest of the body being another color like black or red. It would really show off your contour which is a very cool idea like everyone said. So are you doing that contour on all three because I only saw it on one of them? It might be a good idea to do it the carve on more than one so you can work out the details like finishing and depth and stuff. Either way I like the idea alot but I agree with a few of the other posts that the overall shape could use some reworking, sg's are a great shape but I am not a fan of adding the tele horn. It's your project though so you do what makes you happy. Keep up the good work and keep us updated with pics as you go! Good luck! Jason
iv put a clear coat on it now and it showns of the contour really nice ill put up some pics as soon as i can

that's not a stereo jack, at least it shouldn't be. it's a mono jack w/ a built in on/off switch for the phaser. that way the battery isn't draining when the guitar isn't plugged in. you can use that jack for your output. just leave the connections for the battery and switch the wire going to it from the input to the out put of the phaser. then have your guitar's output going to the phaser's input. piece of pie, er...i mean cake
thanks

So, uh, why do you need three of these?
They remind me of the half-man/half-woman in the old freak shows...except at least they had a sense of symmetry to them.
I'd rethink that upper horn if I were you (because it's too late for the lower part, with all the routing you have there), try to come up with something a bit more elegant.
As it is, to me at least, it looks like you went balls out on the lower part of the body, great routing, etc, then just kind of gave up as you came around to do the top part.
Maybe with the neck on though, it'll look more like a guitar.
yeh the pics arnt great and they do look better with the neck on im goint o add some complete pictures in a couple of weeks as iv just done the clear coat so i have to wait for it to dry
and as for having 3 well when i bought the wood there was enought for 3 bodies i had bought a fernandes sutainer kit but i also wanted a guitar for heavy metal stuff and the i wanted on with a curved top so in the end i ended up with 3
i think im gonna sell the on with the sustainer kit in though
-
I also agree the carve is a great idea, Gives it an intresting look!
And i also agree with Supernova9 that the work has been done VERY neatly... kepe up the good work!

I am currently building 3 guitars of my own design
there SG's with a kind of tele top horn
heres links to the pictures
guitar 1 - http://www.freewebs.com/jcguitars1/pictures.htm
guitar 2 - http://www.freewebs.com/jcguitars2/pictures.htm
guitar 3 - http://www.freewebs.com/jcguitars3/pictures.htm
dont look around the rest of the site if u dont want to as some people give me s**t for putting links to my site
The first one is the most interesting, Drak's right, that carve makes it a better design. Though it feels like it needs accenting somehow, just painting both higher and lower sections matte black feels like it's missing something.
As for the other two - the top horn is too flat , looks like someone just chopped the top off, ya know?
Good work though, all the routing etc. looks very clean and tidy, good templates I take it?
yeh the other two need reshapin they havnt bee properly sanded yeh
as for templates i found so thin piec of wood in garage so drew around my SG and added a top horn
i had to cut it out using a jigsaw so the side were really rough but i manage to sand them down
