i'd like to see a picture of evo as a relic. evo has always looked brand-spankin' new to me...

i thought that gibsons were neck thru, which meant that their neck went through the whole body like this. is the LP in the pictures above basically a bolt on neck that has been glued instead? can someone explain the difference between the pics above and what the guy is doing on the site i mentioned?

well you know that if you properly shield you geetars, then background noise is a moot point. check out guitarnuts.com, that guy has a diagram and a tutorial for properly shielding a guitar, and it's simply amazing. i used to hate single coils with a passion because of the infernal racket they seem to all have, but i rewired and shielded ala guitarnuts and my strat rocks. it even works for humbuckers. i have a FRED in one of my guitars and it has so many more overtones and harmonics now, it's really amazing.

you can't shield like it says on guitar nuts if your pickups are direct mounted (and therefore do not have a pick guard).

i take it i would also need to angle the neck if i was making an SG replica. does anybody have any information on how to do this?

would this be enough to route out a body? would i also need a dremel or no?

yeah, the angle thing really messes me up. i can't find any information on the angling of the neck to use a TOM. is it possible to angle a bolt on neck so that it could use a TOM? i haven't started yet so i'm still open to all options. i think i'll try to go with what's simplest, which so far seems to be a fender style bridge and bolt on neck.

any comments and opinions would be appreciated. :ph34r:

most instruments have the dots on the side, like how most guitars have dots on the face of the neck and on the sides.

if you want to hear a fretless guitar in action listen to the artist known as "bumble foot." he was featured about a year back in the british guitar magazine guitar techniques. he's on the album, "the alchemists," which is a compilation of many guitar musicians with different styles (mainly shredders). i own the album and it is pretty good. bumble foot's song is really unique.

can a bolt on neck take a tune-o-matic bridge, or does it need a fender style bridge?

also, can a neck-thru take a fender style bridge and not a tune-o-matic?

which is a simpler construction method (bolt on or neck-thru)?

while we're on the topic of blending woods, i was wondering if anybody knew where i could find a tutorial on how to make a neck through body? has anybody here ever done this? if so how is the process different from making a bolt on?

i wish i could view that link but it seems like the project guitar server is incredibly slow!

it would seem like you place the high e saddle the exact distance of the scale length that you used to position the frets. don't take this advice! i am only speculating. i am a newbie

another question, how do you measure the spacing of the slots the frets go into? is there a special technique involved? i take it you'd install the nut first and measure from the front of the nut. problem is i'm going to have a double locking floyd rose on my guitar. how does this affect how i set up the frets? how does it affect how i radius the neck? are there different floyd model for different radiai or can you adjust the floyd for different radiai?

any help would be appreciated!

what attatchments will it need to actually fret a guitar?

also, which dremel drill model do you recommend? should i use the dremel to route the body or use someone's else's real router?

how did you shape the neck (back and front)? the tutorials are hazy. did you use a rasp like it says in the making a neck tutorial or did you use a dremel exclusively?

body question: why is it necessary to cut a blank into two and glue it together again? what's the point of cutting in the first place?

ok so i've decided to build my own guitar COMPLETELY from scratch... i've read through the tutorials and there are many tools mentioned of which i am lacking.

first, since it seems to be very popular, i think i'd need a "dremel." what model is best for routing a guitar body? will a dremel 275 do the trick? or will i need one of these:

second, what kind of power sander is best for molding the body? i looked at the body tutorial of the guy making an RG style body and i doubt i could do that with just sand paper. :ph34r:

so are the dremel and the sander the only hardware i will need for the body?

third, what kind of "coping saw" should be used for cutting out the head stock and stuff? i take it from the tutorial on the neck that i will also need a rasp, spokshave, and surform. any suggestions on which brands and models are the best for building a guitar?
