  1. I just finished this for my 2 year old son. He loves to turn knobs and flip switches on my guitars. I gave him an old guitar neck one day when he was in my shop and he played with it for weeks, he thought it was the greatest thing. So I got the idea to make a toy guitar for him with a couple of old pots and a switch and my wife gave it a paint job. It turned out pretty cool.

  2. Iv'e been thinking about buying a mini lathe for my shop but I'm not really sure what to look for in a lathe. I want a good one. So far I have looked at Jet and Delta. Does anyone have suggestions for brands and features to look for?

  3. I used it for a PRS style body. A little chambering lightens it up nicely. If you dig around the wood pile a while you can find some beautiful grain, some even flaimed. I wouldn't call it overly bright either,it sounds great with humbuckers. It works great for necks it is tough as nails. My neighbor who is a logger has been looking for a big black ash burl for me. I'm not sure what it will look like or if it will work for a top but I'll saw it up and let it dry and go from there.

  4. I was wondering if capping the whole back of the heal on a glue in solid body neck with a thin piece 1/8 or less of contrasting wood will be ok or will it weaken the joint? I like the way it looks on my acoustic and thought it would look cool with a piece of walnut covering the heal on the mahogany neck I'm building.

  5. Could anyone recommend a set of humbuckers for a bright sounding guitar [Northern Ash Body]? I am looking for something with good punch and clarity. Somthing not too hot also, [no distortion ones].

I am currently looking at :

Gibson 57 classic and 57 classic plus

    a set of Fralins

    Rio Grande texas BBQ set

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

  6. A spokeshave is not hard to master and they do work very nice. As was said before set it for thin cuts and practice on some scrap. Once you get a feel for it you can rough carve a neck in no time. You will still need a rasp to get in the tight spots.

  7. The guitar with the problem is Northern black ash the other guitar is mahogany With a maple cap. Both TOM bridges. Same cable same amp no stomp box. Could the type of wood cause these pickups to to make a ringing sound? Are Duncans known to be overly bright PUPS?

  8. I have a set of Semour duncans in a guitar. A distortion bridge and a 59 in the neck. I have noticed a slight ringing sound as a note or chord decays. Both pickups do this, I have another guitar with Duncans in it that dosn't do this. So I don't think its normal. Any Ideas?

  9. I thought about a tutorial on the whole cab building process. I have to get better at applying tolex though. I'm really fighting to cover this one. the curved areas are turning out to be a bear. Had to take a break from it. Yes the Eminence badges come with the speakers. Great sounding speakers BTW.

  10. I can build pretty much anything out of wood but when it comes to electronics I'm limited because I'm color blind. I can't tell what color the stripes are on the resistors. My extent of wiring is the few guitars Iv'e built and a few Iv'e modded. Oh and no beers with the powertools I want to keep all my fingers. Gotta play those guitars when there finnished.

  11. I finaly bought a Porter Cable dovetail jig. So far I built a 210 cab for myself and now I'm working on a Marshall style JTM45 head cab. I'm just waiting for the tolex and hardware to come in. They both turned out very nice. ampcab001.jpg

I'm probably going to put the head cab on Ebay after its done.
