Do you ever have problems wetsanding over top of those curves? Seems like you would burn through in a heart beat!

Once that was finished, I got everything put back together. I used slightly oversized stainless steel screws instead of stock screws. These will last forever, look better, and hold better. I also used much oversized stainless screws for the neck. The stock screws are tiny... These new ones are almost twice as large. Much more torque can be applied without stripping the holes AND they, again, will last forever.

Got it soldered up, and ready to go... yes yes I dont have knobs for a tele !!! All in all I'm extremely pleased with the result. The time took to do this was only a few hours, so definitely worth it to me. Some people LOVE that butterscotch blonde to death, but Im not a fan. I also enjoy a nice clean finish, not that "beat to hell" look. lol

I painted the guitar a lovely burgundy metallic color. It looks like wine red with pearl on it, which is nice. Classy color. Sprayed some 2k urethane clear over top.

did the usual wet sanding and buffing that everyone here is familiar with.

got everything shiny and smooth like glass.

So basically I got the guitar, took it apart. Cleaned and polished all the hardware. All the screws were rusty and trashed, so I threw them away (even the neck screws).

I cleaned the neck with acetone and a tooth brush, sanded the back to bare wood, resprayed some clear and got a nice satin finish. I leveled, crowned and polished the frets while I was at it. I then installed a graphtec nut, because the stock nut EXPLODED when I tried tapping it out. I didn't even hit it hard, just tapped on it with and allen wrench haha.

The strangest thing happened. When I was backing one of the neck screws out, the wood on the corner just crumbled out like it was rotting! I've never seen that happen before, so I had to rebuild that corner. I also had to fill in the gouges in the wood and did a lot of prep work.

Hey guys... got this USA telecaster dirt cheap from guitar center. It was butterscotch blonde, and was just absolutely beat to hell. Had chunks of wood missing, electronics weren't working, neck had clear coat chipped off all over, neck was FILTHY, hardware was nasty, etc etc....

Well my dumb*** self thought I took before pictures at the store. This is the closest I have to a "before", because apparently I didn't take pictures of it -.-

Haha i wasnt busting your chops at all. Headstocks always look wonky to me until they are completely finished. Im positive its fine, just looks big in that picture lol

First, the axstars are rare and eclectic guitars. You will have difficulty finding cad files for them, if they even exist.

Second, which model axstar? Theres several different ones.

I would definitely do black all over the back. Every time i see a fender style burst on a guitar with a veneer it just looks tacky for some reason. Personal taste is all, its really up to you. Just make sure you grain fill properly so yoy dont get witness lines

If you're having trouble getting a clean edge, I would most certainly do a burst of some kind.

Some things are good. Table saws and drill presses are good. Theres not much fancy stuff to go about em, and its pretty simple design. Things like bandsaws with the new computer balanced wheels and bearings, precision manufacturing just wasn't present in the 50's.

Well this one is gonna be a jewlry box for the wife, ill post better pics of it later. The filler material is very fine pearl additive for paint, very pretty color all around.

I've been dabbling with some interesting grain filling ideas. If cocobolo is open grained enough, you can grain fill with powder pigments (pearls for paints). I'm doing a copper grain fill on a walnut piece to test it out, and it contrasts pretty nicely.

Ok gents. Ive wracked my brain on this one. Short of putting them in a baggy and stuffing them in a box, does anyone have any ideas for clever organization and storage of these? This is about 2/3'rds of my collection of tuners, I have about 150 tuners lol. If anyone is looking for gotoh or grover tuners... let me know... I've posted em on ebay pretty cheap, but no nibbles on em for whatever reason.

Haha i will say i love my ancient drill press, but my old bandsaw is 400 pounds of iron thats near useless. Debatimg on wjat to fo with it honestly
