EP 4486_000 comes up as a dual concentric pot, but that is not what you are describing so i imagine there is a typo

check your order details - was the one you ordered described as DPDT? if so they have definitely sent you the wrong one.

i do remember an old type of push/pull that matches your description - it was just an on/off switch, so if you were wiring a coil split switch you would wire the coil split wires to one prong and the other prong to ground. a lot less options than a DPDT

Westone thunders can be had in the UK usually for less than £150, which is about $240. I had one a couple of years ago for a while and really liked it, couldnt believe the quality of some of the woodwork for such a cheap 80's guitar. the pre-amp was a bit noisy but that is all i could really fault about it

Is the dynasty a matsumoku guitar? - they moved production from japan in the later 80's. cant remember if this model predates that or not.

don't do anything you don't have to, and if you do have to change parts keep the originals in the case - these are generally going up in value despite not being the highest regarded gibson period. the black customs are always sought after.

don't clean the screws, or any other corroded parts apart from the jack socket which is corroded enough to actually affect performance.

i would consider a light fret levelling but these are often quite low already from the factory - fretless wonder period

it looks close to collector quality and a collector would often prefer to pick up the guitar in the state its in with small issues that are easy to solve - rather than pick up a guitar that has been worked on and restored

Will the nonslanted pickups just cause a bit thinner bass sound?

anything you lose is more than gained back with the increased response you get from having fanned frets. you can hear the single pickup one here - certainly not thin in the bass

tonally its just like having a slanted pickup on a normal guitar

yeah, a 12th fret perp is not a flaw- just promotes a different playing style.

i do prefer 3-9 fora good alrounder but shredding on a 12th fret perp will be no problem

i once saw one with a straight bridge and very angled nut - it certainly made some first position chords difficult but most were still viable.

whilst i am a fan of the corvus and agree that it makes more sense as a headless design

the bich would not be the same. big wide body with no head. no no no. but it is a great 10 string

I don't think that the dye will affect the side dots but it may discolour the abalone.

Oh there is - its just the first thing i thought of when i saw it.

i remember once gettting torn apart on a forum for copying another custom builders design - one or two elements of the body shape were vaguely similar , but they were all taken from pre existing deisgns that predated his work, and i had never even seen his work blah blah blah. i even had dated photo's of my design evolutions with notes showing what models the features in question were taken from

i dont get too hung up on it anymore, only reason i point these things out is for design discussion and potential inspiration (or to show off my immense guitar knowldge )

that one i never quite saw as finished, but it was the first go at a proper carve top i was actually happy with the contours on and it is a damn sexy guitar. It was made for a friend about 2 years ago, unfortunately he died suddenly just over a year ago from very advanced leukaemia that he was not aware of.

just a week before that i had it back in to consider his his latest set of adjustments, he was suddenly finding it a bit too heavy and wondered if there was anything to do. it wasnt a light guitar, but since his other 2 were a 70's yamaha SG 2000 and a 90's les paul studio it was within the weight range he was used to. possibly one of those signs that pointed out something wasn't quite right - but hindsight is 20:20

mount it so the wire comes out on the corner closest to the control cavity. you dont really want the wire going underneath the pickup on a soapbar P-90 because you run the risk of screwing straight through the wire

is it worth having a channel under each height adjustment set screw - might help to keep them all parallel

also worth remembering that the saddles need to be set quite high on a kahler style trem to give enough string pressure on them - they look a little low at the moment. definitely worth considering trying it on an actual guitar to get all those aspects correct before going much further

hmm. i think i would also thin down the long saddle sections from just behind the grub screw so that they all looked like the low e saddle

i thought the same, but it seems to be caused by the tailpiece, which i think is just laid in slightly the wrong place at the moment

edit; extra pics - you've done a good clean up job but I've also never seen a decal as close to the edge of the headstock

there is no consistency in decal placement on early fenders - all over the shop

looks like a good job to me, 24" scale is fine but needs at least a set of 11's. the mustang bridge doesnt help things though

I would say that your work is constantly improving time after time Wez. That Stratele is near as damnit perfect. The WezO-Sonic looks cool for it's awesome bulletproof rawness. Usual questions apply - anything you would have done better in these builds, etc? Is that a silver/black waterslide decal on there?

yeah, its a waterslide - i got this style for some gibson style black headstock i was doing a few years ago, but they seem to work nicely on most things.

there are always things that can be done better but my main issue at the moment is that everything is taking far too long!!

i must admit i am preferring simpler guitars these days. i still appreciate a nice bit of lamination with fancy woods and highlights, and i still like mucking about with different techniques. but looking back over the last 10 years building guitars i can honestly say the best ones have been the simpler ones

the guitar body is really basic stuff for 3d printing - the current focus of the technology seems to be printing working machines with moving parts. iirc there is an ongoing project to try to print a working 3d printer - once they start self-replicating they will take over the world
