  1. I was playing with the idea of doing a string thru bridge and with different ideas with the pickguard. I really like the white pearl with the string through bridge. What do you think?
  2. My next question, Is the poplar at Home Depot ok to build a guitar body?
  3. Would it be bad to layer 3 layers of poplar to get the correct thickness of the body? I would make 2 pieces of 3 layered poplar...then join the 2 pieces together with the joint in the center of the guitar. Would this be ok? Or would all the glueing and layering reduce the sound quality out of the body?
  4. What is a voodoo finish? This is what I'm looking to possibly do. What size do you want and what wood? Call BlueLynx, formerly Austin Hardwoods on Matthis just off Royal lane between Luna and 35E. The Woodcraft in Addison just got some nice Ash in and priced under market, but will need to to gluedup for thickness as it is only 4/4 but if your going more solid color should not matter. Otherwise contact myself via PM or Jon in Ft Worth, I'm sure one of us can hook you up with some wood to your liking. MIke BTW I'm in Farmers Branch pm sent.
  5. anyone have any suggestions for a place to get wood? I dont' want to get a body blank because I think they are overpriced and I can make a two piece body blank for cheaper than buying one. I can't seem to find anywhere local that has hardwood. I live in lewisville, Texas
  6. well i was considering doing a purple and black burst but the purple was going to be possibly translucent.
  7. I am going to start a new build and was wanting some suggestions on the wood for the body and neck. I was considering using either alder, basswood or poplar for the body. I plan on doing a black and purple burst finish on it. I am kind of on a tighter budget than I would like so that is the reason for the types of wood. What would you suggest for the body? ALSO, where is the best place to get a wood blank for the neck? It will be a 24" scale fender supersonic clone. Is there a place where I can get a fretboard for a 24" scale?
  8. this is what I have so far. These dimensions are from scaling off the drawings and I also took the dimensions from the jaguar cad drawing and converted it to the supersonic. Are these dimensions correct? If someone has pictures of the supersonic with the pickguard off, and the picture is pretty close to being straight on, I would like it....I would like to draw up the plans for routing the tremelo and electrical stuff. As well as the back tremelo stuff. Thanks.
  9. i am trying to get rid of some of my equipment, so I am gonna sell this. If anyone is interested just shoot out an offer. I have too much stuff and need to clear up some space.
  10. This guitar was given to me by a friend. It originally said it was a fender stratocaster on the headstock but there is no way it was a strat. It was originally painted a gold/copper color but is now covered with newspaper. It was glued on and then cleared over the newspaper. The guitar plays pretty good, but I am considering selling it. I dunno what I should expect to get for it? I don't much more about the guitar. Under the newspaper on the headstock is the fender logo and stratocaster.....so I am considering ripping off the newspaper on the headstock and exposing that even though I know it isn'ta true fender. Any ideas as to how much I should ask?
  11. yeah it is a 24" scale just like the jaguar and the mustang. Warmoth carries 24" scale with the cbs style headstock. I want the reverse headstock just like that supersonic. I am pretty sure I could build it, but i am wondering after all is said and done, if it would be cheaper to buy than to build? I have the tools to build a the neck other than something to press in the frets and a few router bits. I found some cad drawings for a jaguar, I am gonna try mirroring the plans and see how accurate they are in comparison to the super-sonic.
  12. I am going to build a copy of this guitar. It is a squier super-sonic guitar. I am wanting to the purple burst finish like I photoshopped into this picture. My question is, what would be the best way to get a template of the body shape? Is there a way to scale a picture to the correct size and trace it? or is there anyother tricks to getting the body shape exactly like this guitar? I wish I had a body to trace but I do not have one. my second question is, should I build a neck and headstock to match this, or should I buy a pre-fabbed neck? warmoth has the exact neck i need but it is rather pricey, to the tune of $160. It is going to be a 24" scale. any suggestions on the neck would be great.
  13. so how much are you willing to take in american dollars?
  14. I am looking to build a pickup that is really high output and has nice harmonics. Since the rails seem to be a task most are unsure of....should I go ahead and make a traditional humbucker with regular pole pieces? Does it matter if I use the screws like a regular PAF or not? also, I noticed that the seymor JB uses 44 awg wire. Would I benefit from using taht gauge, or should I just use 42 awg?
  15. I was wanting to use a ceramic magnet. I am hoping to build a pickup that will be a nice heave metal pickup. I am wanting it to be pretty good with pinch harmonics as well as be really fat sounding on low tuned chords. So I should just use the 42 awg wire or should I go thicker? Where would be the best place to get a ceramic magnet for what I'm wanting to do?
  16. I am about to make a rails type humbucker pickup. I am looking to make something very similar to the dimebucker or the X2N pickup. My question is...Does the wire wrap directly around the steel rail pole piece? or is there something inbetween the wire the the rail like a regular bobbin has? Also, can I just use a regular piece of steel for the rail? Should I wrap with 43 awg or 42 awg? I am looking for pickup with alot of pinch harmonics.
  17. its a 60's strat. I didn't do anything to the shape of it. it was already like that. I just gutted it, painted it and redid everything inside it.
  18. This was an old squier 1 bullet that I had painted with Ford Mustang paint. then I completely redid everything. It sounds pretty dang good. I was surprised of how well it sounds and plays. I still need knobs and possibly pickup rings for the rail pickups. but so far What do you guys think of it? here is it without the Pups Finished
  19. yep. it sounds pretty good. i was very surprised at how well it sounds and plays.
  20. I got it figured out. thanks for the help. one of my ground wires was loose and I found it.
  21. does anyone know what the hum or buzz could be caused from? It only hums when I'm not touching the strings or the bridge. It really is evident when i have distortion on. I really would like to fix this.
  22. well my problem is i dunno exactly how to wire my 5 way toggle because mine has 8 slots in a row and the diagram you sent me has 4 in a row and then 4 beside that. since mine has 8 in a row i am confused how to wire the toggle. I drew how I wired it but I wasn't sure if I have done it right. does this make any sense? That strip in my diagram on the bottom left is the 5 way toggle... see how they are all in a line rather than 4 and 4 like the diagram you posted? How should I wire this?
  23. ok my 5 way toggle has 8 slots in a row rather than 4 and 4 like all the diagrams. This is how I wired it up, but I have no clue if this is right or not. Please take a look at my diagram of how I wired it up and tell me what i should do. I tried the guitar and it works but the tone knob doesn't really change the sound very much and I am getting a massive amount of buzz unless I am touching like the bridge or the strings or something. what could be causing this? I lined the entire electronics cavity with copper shielding, so I dunno what the problem is.
