  1. The EMG extended series pickups are essentially EMG 85's with bigger coils in a bigger housing. Give EMG a call, that's what they'll tell ya.

I've got the DC 45 for 6 string basses in my 8 string and the high strings sound awesome.

I'd go the EMG route. Less hassle, no ebay and you dont' have to worry about pole piece alignment because it's two big bars.

  2. I can't wait to see this thing in production. I'm loving the lower spike on that thing and I think the deep green is going to look amazing on this.

Any ETA for starting the body?

Any chance you could do a render with an inline headstock? I'm really curious to know what that would look like.

  3. I failed to really get into that band......mostly because they were terrible.

What i've never understood about the whole black metal scene is.....how really scary and frightening can you really be....playing a guitar. "Look at me!!! I have bad makeup on and I have a guitar!! I'm evil! GRRRRR!!!!!"

I dunno. I just don't dig it. I think Cradle of Filth is about as "black metal" as i'll ever get.

  4. I was definitely leaning more towards the 7 string tune o matic with string thrus. I've got the bridge piece already, but i've also got another hipshot 7. Both are in gold though....

I've also got a 7 string lo pro edge in black. I talked to Kahler and I'd be looking around 600 USD for a custom kahler 7.

Thanks again for the nice words guys!

Deadly - dude, to say that I inspired you put the biggest smile on my face man, thanks.

On a different note, i also have this big slab of zebrawood that I got for 50 bucks. It's about 48 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. I have NO idea what to do with this. The prices on Zebrawood is usually nuts, so i thought this was kind of a steal.

Any ideas I was leaning at a neck thru multilam neck, hockey stick inline 6 headstock, mahogany wings with zebrawood caps on them.... black hardware.... but that's using less than a 3rd of this, probably less....

Maybe zebrawood neck laminates on a neckthru?

  5. So this one....not sure what the hardware's gonna be. I managed to pick up this big 1.15 inch slab of flamed maple for 18 bucks, so i resawed it and now i've got this 1/2 inch maple bookmatched cap. I used the same body design as my 8 string (which has more progress!) but i'm unsure if this will be fixed bridge, floyd, kahler.....

The the other 1.25 inches is mahogany. Also - the line down the center is actually pencil, not a huge gap!

  6. string thru with a tune o matic bridge would look awesome. Keep the long part of the fretboard though, adds to the whole design.

Here's a question (after using the search feature)

How do you do the faded bevels that brew mentioned, similar to the ones on a Rhodes? I can't find a single thing on how to do it.

  7. I posted. :D

    **edit!**

    The thread and the response

Well about 15 minutes after I posted, here's the complete response. The guy's email is available right on the page as well.

    Hey Brian,

Thanks for posting. Allow me to make some quick clarifications:

    1. We make every attempt to contact the content owner before republishing. There was no contact information on the Building the Ergonomic Guitar blog, so we could not contact the author.

    2. You are correct regarding the lack of attribution. The script that pulls the content in from other blogs is supposed to automatically insert a link, as it has for other blogs. There is no excuse for this error and I do apologize for it. I will immediately go back and make this correction as well.

    3. We offer 50% of the revenue earned from the ads displayed by content contributors to them. (We expect to increase the percentage given to the original contributor in the future; it is priced very conservatively). The earnings for this blog have been earmarked and can be collected by the blogger at any time. Our internal currency system that allows for all of this to be easily done will be implemented in a day or two.

    4. Even though the advantages of this offer to the author should be self-evident at this point, we are always happy to comply with the request of the original author to remove this content. Should he want the content removed, just drop a line, and we'll take it off instantly.

Regarding copyright legality: that is a very murky matter, and certainly not as clear and straightforward as you are suggesting. If any other does not want to syndicate their content, they should not issue an RSS feed -- that's essentially what an RSS feed does, allow for syndication. To issue an RSS feed and then cry illegality when the feed is grabbed and syndicated is confusing at best.

I hope this clears matters up for you. If you'd like, please feel free to send me a private message with the blog author's contact information and I'll be happy to clarify the matter with him.

  8. I'll post a pic when i get everything in the same room....

    Amp
    Randall RH250 (2004) 250 watts of fun!
    Boss GX-700
    Furman Power Conditioner
    Behringer Racktuner
    Behringer V-Amp Pro
    BBE 462 Sonic Maximizer
    Behringer 4x12 (actually sounds good!)

    Guitars

    2006 BGW 8 String now strung F# - E (EMG DC45)
1999 Ibanez RG7620 (Dimarzio Evolutions in white)
    1994 Ibanez RG570 (Emg 89, SA, 89)
1992 Ibanez RG770 (Duncan Parallel Axis in all 3 positions) - Main guitar... i love this thing...
1993 Ibanez RG550 currently in pieces
1995 Yamaha RGX 621 (EMG 81, EMG SA, EMG H, Full neck scallop)
    Charvel Model 3 w/ Kahler (EMG 81/SA/SA)

What's really sad is that less than 2 years ago, I didn't have any of this gear because I'd taken a 5 year hiatus on guitar....which was incredibly stupid.

  9. My required effects are reverb and delay.

I'm currently running the high gain stage out of my randall RH250 and a boss GX700 (basically a whole bunch of boss pedals in one rackmount unit) and a BBE 462. Haven't really seen the need for anything else....

I was considering a Wah pedal, but i can't find one that I dig on. I'd be looking for one with a really exaggerated wah to it with a large sweep. Any recommendations? I was going to check out the Vai Bad Horsie down at the big guitar store here.

  10. If you could do a refinish on the top of it, put a quilted maple veneer on it with trans blue, and I send you a fretboard for you to install on it, I would buy it for a good price =]

I have a ton of guitar parts, lots of 6 string necks/pickups and such, random stuff.. if you were interested

Sorry man, i'm really not up to refinishing this thing.

You could take it and refinish it! :D

  11. Originally i was going to use the lo-pro edge 7 (thought i'd say it's not a TRS), but I'm seriously kinda done with Floyds. I looked at my two floyd equipped Ibanez's and wondered when the last time was that I actually used the bar.

So if you want the trem, i'll make it available. Throw out an offer and we'll see what we can do.
