From what I hear they seem to be pretty good for tuning, but they are like 40:1 so thats a lot of turns if you want to drop d or tune to an open chord or something
Traditional tuners are about 16:1 so that'd be 2.5 times more turns for 40:1. Steinberger tuners are also 40:1. Dropping the 6th string from E to D took just about one full turn. Tuning the entire guitar up from slack is pretty quick. If anything, having the 40:1 would be better for fine tuning .

What other options are there besides RJ-11? The EMG Quik-Connect connectors (the one for the EMG-89 in particular) looks similar to what you'd find in a computer, for example, to connect the cd drive audio to the sound card. What are these kind of connectors called? The RJ-11 jacks look HUGE in comparison.

Yeah, it doesn't take very long to "stretch" strings with my (non-speedloader) floyds... but then it could be because I use locking tuners (even with a locking nut.) It may seem counter-intuitive (with having a locking nut) but not having the slack wrapping around the tuning peg might have something to do with it (if you believe the treatise by floyd I just posted above.)

How can the new string stay in tune after you installed it on a speed loader equipped guitar? Usually new strings stretch during the first hour of using them and not in a range that could be compensated with a fine tuner....how does it work?
Are the strings pre-stretched?

Hmm... I had a feeling that the gibson classic 57 and classic 57 plus are two conductor pickups so I did a search, finding this:

which confirmed my concern. You'll need four conductor pickups.

Btw...when you blend two single coils (one on neck and one on bridge) do they behave as a humbucker or as two single coils?
It'll act as HB's if you use the N coil of one pickup and the S of the other. If both are N or S, then it'd be as two SC's.

I don't see why not. It should work fine the way you describe. That's what I plan to replace my current setup (each 4-conductor HB pickup with an on/on/on dp3t offering series/single/parallel) with.

As far as I know, the only place you can actually get strings from is www.floydrose.com
I have been wanting one of these myself, but am holding out until more string companies come on board.
You can get them at other places like zzounds.com, samedaymusic.com and music123.com.
I think Dean Markley have the exclusive on them... so it'd probably be awhile (if ever) that other string companies come on board.

What metal are the inserts? Stainless steel? Heh, might as well ask the same for the bolts . I ask because I seem to recall someone posted that you'd need to use petroleum jelly if the both bolt and insert are SS.

Just to add some complexity to the issue... how will the vol/tone knobs be configured? I've seen some 3 HB guitars, for example, with the 3-way switch for the neck/bridge going to the master vol/tone with the middle pickup controlled by a separate vol/tone with no extra switch.

Seeing as a I still can't find a suitable neck I've come up with an idea This neck fits perfectly but there's not enough over-hang on the fretboard and the gap between the bottom of the neck and the neck pickup looks too weird (to me anyway) ....so I've decided to fill the neck pickup and paint the guitar
Hmm... it might be because of the angle that the picture was taken but something looks off. The neck might fit perfectly in the pocket but it looks like the scale is off with that body. Just by measuring with a ruler on my computer screen, the distance from the nut to the 12th fret, then taking that distance from the 12th fret, the bridge will wind up in the middle of the pickup hole. Like I said, it might be just an optical illusion with the picture so please check it out on the actual guitar.

Not just paper, phenolic resin impregnated paper. Think of what paper's made from . Phenolic fretboards are/were "common." I have an aluminum neck kramer from the 70's with one.
You can try a google search for such terms as ebonol, guitar, fretboard, phenolic and paper.

I've heard that guitar manufactures are using "ebonol"? Any one know what that is - Imitation ebony?
I'm not 100% sure but I think it's phenolic (resin impregnated paper, IIRC.)

Im not making the aluminum body, its on order from spruce hill guitars.
How heavy are the bodies? I guess I should also ask how thick they are and if they're chambered. For comparison, the Abel Axe with a kahler weighs about 9.5 lbs. but it's full of holes and is really thin (with tiny neck joint) .

What amp/speaker configuration does your friend have? I did a quick search for marshall MG50 dfx and it seems to be a 1x12" combo. Do you have your amp on the floor? The feedback is caused by the sound from the speaker(s) looping back through your guitar pickups so if you have your MG50 on the floor, the speaker is that far away from your pickups. If your friend had, for example, a 4x12" half or full stack... much closer to the pickups.
...again, just a guess, could be something entirely unrelated
Oh, I forgot to ask... same guitar on both amps? Could be the guitar/pickups?
