  2. I am considering replacing the guts of my Vantage Devil. http://vantage-guitars.com/models/va-900.htm It's a 2H configuration with 1 volume, 1 tone, coil split, phase switch, and a switched active preamp with it's own level control. I want to replace the tone and preamp level controls with a 2 band switched active/passive EQ. Preamp gain will be a trim pot inside. Any suggestions for available components or DIY circuits? Thanks
  3. Does the truss rod need to extend over the entire fretboard length? For the Gibson scale 24 fret I'm thinking about, with the adjustment at the heel, the StewMac trussrod I'm looking at would run to about an inch short of the nut. Is that OK? Thanks
  4. Basically use this: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=tapped_tele_5way instead of the Joe wilson, just using the super switch to change the positions.
  5. Yes, that's the tapped lead. I'm considering replacing the series option with the hot lead in parallel. I was wondering if anyone had compared sounds. Thanks
  6. I was planning to do a Joe Wilson mod to my Tele using the Oak Grigsby super switch. One of the settings is the bridge pickup in series with the tapped (traditional) bridge pickup. I was thinking that I might prefer to have the hot lead in parallel with the neck as one of the five setting instead. Has anybody compared these? Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks
  7. I'm in the market for a planer. Is 13" really not big enough for a body? I can't afford anything more. Most popular designs I have looked at are just under 13". My own ideas are under 13" as well. Thanks
  8. I am cutting a custom headstock from a Saga neck. I plan to fill the existing tuner holes and apply veneer prior to cutting and drilling the new shape. I need to trim the headstock to prevent it from becoming too thick. I would prefer to not remove the nut since I don't know what it is glued in with. What is the best way to thin the headstock? Right now my plan is to use a router VERY carefully. Is there a better way? Thanks
  9. I'm thinking about doing a stained mahogany body. If I stain, then grain fill, what is the best way to match the stain color? Thanks
  10. A Thinline, if it ever gets past the planning stage. Stained wood finish.
  11. What is the best way to finsish the edges of sound holes without using binding? Maybe paint layers of cyanoacrylate, or something along those lines? Thanks
  12. Thank you. I'm not electronically illiterate and always wondered why it was recommended that shielding be only grounded at one end. The ground loop explains it perfectly.
  13. As I understand it, if you use shielded wire you only ground one end, hence it cannot be used to ground say, a pickup selector switch or the ground to the output jack, and a separate ground wire is required. Is this correct? Thanks
  14. Undercut, that's the word I was looking for. I want to add a switch without having to redo the access cover. I was worried that with wood surrounding the bit above and below that it would grab and send it out of control through the guitar and possibly me. Thanks
  15. I'm not sure if that is the correct term. What I want to do is route inside the body from an existing opening using a fairly large diameter bit. Has/can this be done, or am I just asking for trouble? Thanks
  16. I want to install a piezo bridge and, not wanting to touch any of my guitars, plan to build one. I thought a kit might be the easiest way to start, but I'm having trouble with bridge dimensions, specifically post spacing and diameter. Usually the information is not available or, if it is, it cannot be changed to what I need. Nor can I find a manufacturer that will simply not drill the holes. I'm having a similar problem with control mounting, since my electronics design will require a few more than normal. It doesn't help that I don't want a Strat, Tele, or LP look-alike and am not willing to use a pickguard as a cover. Has anybody dealt with this problem and might have some advice? Thanks,
