  1. Hey I would like to thank everyone at projectguitar that helped me learned how to put finishes on guitars. Thanks to you guys a local music shop and I have worked out a deal as to where I will be making Custom finished guitars for them. I am so excited and couldn't wait to get on project guitar and thank everyone! I have decided since everyone on here has been so helpful ,that when my first sale goes through ,I am going to donate some money to the forum. Thanks again Steve
  2. I wonder if there is any way i can get any of these peoples permission. Because Im sure they wouldn't mind if i was cutting them a check every so often. Does anyone know about asking permission? I don't have too much experience with copyright stuff. And thanks for the feed back I appreciate it. Steve
  3. A friend of mine saw some of the guitars that i was making on here. And asked me if I could make a guitar for her boyfriend with some stuff from star wars on it. I didn't give her an answer if i could do it or not but would really like too and could use the money. I was curious if anybody on the forum has every built any guitars with images of famous shows or things on them. If so were there any reprecutions because of the build and because you made money off of it. Steve
  4. Sweet I appreciate the news.. I'll try that and tell you how it works. I was alway mad because i like the shine without sanding but stuff always got in it. I didn't really think keeping it in a box would help but i guess i was wrong. Huh guess that why they don't pay me to think. steve
  5. Is there a certain place you take the guitars so that they don't get any debris on them. I almost got a glass finish on this one the last time but there was specks of dust so i just figured i would sand. If you have any tips on how keep debris away I would love it.... it would make a lot of my work a lot easier. Steve
  6. alright now thats more helpful. I sprayed the first couple of coats with the guitar hanging up but then moved to having the guitar level. Is there any way to figure out how to get it level or is it just a practice make perfect type thing. and yes its just getting bigger each time i sand. So guess i'll just respray the back since thats the area where i am having my problem. I appreciate the help you guys let me know if you have any other usefull tips for spraying poly or can tell me where i can get a cheap laquer kit. Steve
  7. Yeah the pic is bad i will admit but was the best i could do and still get the imperfection to show up. Yes i am spraying urethane. That is rather helpful. How do I fix This Particular problem easily? On like a scale of one to ten of being a problemm, what would you, as a better builder place this at?.. this way i know how much of a pain in the ass it is gonna be. I appreciate the feed back Steve
  8. Hey I am new to this whole guitar thing and i keep working on this guitar but everytime i sand it this happens on one spot or another. is this because i sprayed it wrong or is it fixable... somene please let me know. I wanna be done with this guitar as soon as possible. Steve
  9. I know Im a newb but did you guys really fight for two pages about an old useless tutorial that doesn't work anyway? Dude Build a guitar you have much better things to do with your time!
  10. Alright I gotta another question for you guys. Do think that I got too much over spray in the pattern of the guitar or do you think that it looks okay? I would appreciate as much feed back as possible. Thanks. Steve
  11. That Sucks dude. I really like the way the guitar is coming!!
  12. Nobody every answered my question to this? I didn't know you couldn't paint the neck cavity. Can i just sand the paint out or is my guitar ruined? I'll definately check out the clear pickguards... if i were to use plastic paint on the guitars would it stick to the plastic and could I clear over that just like a guitar? Because I have an airbrush gun (alll be it a crappy one) I saw an airbrush guitar on this site, pickguard and all. So its gotta be possible I'll work on it. But The next question is what should I airbrush on this Pickguard. I was originally gonna put hendrx in sillhouette form somewhere on the guitar. (it was origianlly wass be a van gogh based artistically but hendrix influenced by sound) Should i try it on the pick guard? Let me know what you think? Steve
  13. actually when i get my own place here in a few months my dad was talking about helping me build a paint booth. So im hoping to be able to do a lot more complicated stuff here reall soon.
  14. I would like to paint on the pickguard put i find that i run into the problem of the airbrush paint flaking off. I would do it if i knew there was some way to get them on there and stay on there! I would love if someone could tell me if there is a spray i could get? steve
  15. No Purple Pick cover... I think thats just too much purple.. i wanna find like a hendrix cream pick guard to match the fender stacked humbucker pickups that i am going to put in it. I like to do a lot of hand painted stuff i think everything that you guys see of mine will be reall wild. Someone said something about getting paint in the neck cavity (sorry i hate being a newbie) ? Is that a problem and if so is there a way i can fix it? I appreciate all the feed back Steve this is another project i am working on. The only colors sprayed on here are black (for the back ground), Red for the back ground in spidey, and the blue for his legs.. everything else was done by hand!
  16. I appreciate it. Thank you I only hope is sounds as good as it looks.
  17. My girlfriend did the swirl and the idea was from a van gogh. Its really simple to do. just buy some brushes get some paint. Draw circles on the guitar, paint the out line but don't go all the way around skip some spots and work your way inward. Start with one color and then move to the next... actually it doesn't take much painting skill at all. thanks steve
  18. Hey I wanted to get some of your ideas about this guitar My initial idea is to make is a left or right hand guitar by putting a strap knob of the bottom horn. And i am putting stacked fender noiseless pickups in it to give it a thicker sound. But I was originally goin to do like a sillhouette of jimi hendriz sprayed lightly in the corner... but seeing how it looks now i don't know if should do that or not. What do you guys think? steve
  19. A guitar I am working on as a hobby.. Some one let me know what you think of the idea
  20. I have sent them like 4 e-mails to send me a packett so i could learn about tuition and things like that but no reply. I tried the number on the site and didn't get an answer. Do you know any other way of reaching him? steve
  21. Does anybody know whether there is a luthier school in north ga that i could attend to help with some hands on experience? I would really like to start carving out crazy designs and making my own guitars. But I think fretting and making the neck would be much more than i can handle with out a little hands on learning. If any one can help i would appreciate it! steve
  22. I wanna thank everybody that helped me on this. I am still not done but i think it will take only 4 or 5 more days and i will be through.. most of my problem arrised from the fact that i had not put enought clear coat on and was accidentally sanding through. Thanx to the stew mac tutorial and south pa's picture i have determined a way to get the problem fixed and will be not painfully time consuming. Thanks steve
  23. Is it better to dry sand first and then wet sand like the guy in the stew mac tutorial or should i wet sand the entire thing? steve
  24. Actaully, there is a technique to fix a stain job on a sand through. I've done it before and its invisible. Its described in one of the stew mac tutorials. I'll update this post when I get a chance.
  25. I just started the wetsanding process on my guitar! AAAHHH i feel like pulling my hair out. From what i have read on project guitar forum you just wetsand until the surface is dull, flat and smooth. I have parts in my guitar that have speckles of shine in them and when i try to sand it away i wind up sanding through my clear coat!!! (luckily only in one spot). Does any one have any advice that may help me? steve
