    I recently bought an Avalon AS100 acoustic (described in one guitar magazine as "the best acoustic under £500) and it sounds really good. Solid top with laminated back and sides, nice balanced tone and looks great too. Some stores had them at reduced prices (I paid £275 for mine new). They often come up on ebay too.
