  1. Hello, not sure what forum this would go in, So I will ask here first.. Im looking for large sheets of protective foam, something to put inside a guitar case.. I seen some nice molded guitar cases around and was wondering where I find this foam stuff.. I searched around but couldnt really find any prices that was reasonable (for the case size, they quote like $700 and etc) Wondering if anyone knew where something like this could be bought thats affordable? Doesnt have to be high quality, as Im probably putting faberic over the top anyways.. Thanks
  2. Hey everyone.. I need an EDGE PRO. the only place new that has them, is Rich from ibanezrules.. and he doestn have the colour I want.. so I dont really wanna spend $300 on something in the wrong color.. However, if I find one used in good condition, I'll take ANY color. PM me please, Really need one hehe. Thanks
  3. Well, someone else is doing the main construction for me, routing, fretboard switch, etc.. BTW my inlays just got quoted for nearly $100.. so TaTa.
  4. I'll get it built, for 1/4th the cost you guys posted, Then ill just post pics and sound clips and rub it in your face jerks lol
  5. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you've seriously underestimated here. Any decent inlay artist will charge you at least $60/hour... that vine is probably a good 30-40 hour job. And $100 won't cover your finishing costs. More like $300 and up. Mike
  6. I heard great things from hobbyist builders, and its way more cost efficient because they are still great guitars, but not jerks enough to put the price up over $5000. If I wanted a $5000 guitar, why would I look for someone on here? Jackson Customshop is probably the best custom shop in the world, and they STILL charge less or around what you guys are saying here. No offense to Jeremy, I heard great stuff about his work, but theres no one who can compete with Jackson (except ESP, for twice the price) And thats just a well-known fact. Forget about it then, I have the nice people of project guitar forums on PM, I'll just talk to them, Everyone else just wants to make a profit by ripping someone off with their inexperianced guitar building, but since they think they can build "good" guitars, they wanna charge way more than its worth. Honestly, I do understand what it takes to build a guitar, Almost every aspect, and after material costs, which I have all covered except wood, it is not difficult at all for a NON-carved top, simple wiring system, simple paintjob and neckthru construction. Just make sure the scale is correct, make sure the routes are clean and its done. I would even attempt it myself if I had the tools, and if someone is gonna charge me $3000 for labor costs, then I rather attempt it myself. I would have 5 out of 6 guitars just as good as ONE I would get for $3000, because im saving all that money they use for major profit. Thanks for replying in such a bad manner to someone simply looking for help. I hope you are all proud of yourselves. Next time maybe I should mention HOBBYIST BUILDERS, NOT "PROFESSIONALS"
  7. lol. so why would thegarehanman, unclej and other builders I talked to, all say a reasonable price, but You guys (who im assuming are NOT professional builders, just hobbyists) are saying $3000. This is what I think some people are crazy for wanting to charge over $1000 labor. If they were PROFESSIONAL builders, such as working for Jackson or ESP in a custom shop, SURE then thats reasonable, but someone who build 2-3 guitars in their lifetime, should not be charging over $1000 for CONSTRUCTION alone. Sorry to be a jerk about it, but some people think if pro luthiers charge $6000 for a guitar, with their 30 years experiance, someone who just started and built 2 guitars should be able to charge $6000 also. I would of liked to make a deal with Jeremy, back when I didnt have all the parts, but unfortunately he was too busy at the time and told me custom orders were not being taken, so I bought all the parts now for a smaller builder to make the cost cheaper so too late now, i dont have the $2000 anymore to spend.
  8. Hello everyone. I have been trying to make a custom guitar since January, planning it out and figuring out what I want. I have basically designed it all already, and have the money to do it now (assuming I sell these 2 guitars I have) Now unfortunately, Im not the best builder, and I would attempt making my own guitar, and probably will play around with it this summer, but for this guitar, I want it to be done by someone who actually knows what they are doing, and can make good guitars. Which isnt me. I have talked to about 10 people so far about it, and some I have an issue with pricing, others I just dont have too much contact with (they reply like once a month; not good communication is risky) or they simply dont feel like doing this style of work. I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me building my guitar, I have every detail down exact, and I also have ALMOST all the parts (just missing the trem, and fretboard with my special inlays) so it would be purely wood/labor fees for the project. I have every hardware piece down to the straplocks, the only thing I dont have is wires connecting the pickup to the knob and jacks, but I have the pickup, knob, pot, jack, everything else. I will introduce you to my design. It is basically a Jackson Rhoads style guitar, with a 1/8th" Quilted maple veneer on top, Stained Blue. Maple Neckthrough, with Alder body-wings. Reverse Jackson headstock with matching veneer, Maple fretboard with my custom inlays (Ibanez Tree of life with 1st fret modify) and 24frets, 25.5" scale. A Dimarzio x2n pickup, One volume knob, Control cavity big enough for battery (incase I wanna switch the pickup in the future) Fender-style jack on the upper-wing. Ibanez Edge pro bridge (if I can find one used) with locking nut on neck. Neck profile similar to that of a Wizard neck in terms of thickness (ibanez) Here is a picture from the JCF generator of my dream guitar The inlays, can be seen in details here http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i139/Nic...r/Vineboard.jpg If someone can even do the inlay work, that would be Great! The Ibanez Vine inlays can be bought off ebay for like $50, its just the first fret needs to be modified (and with filling, dont think it'll look good, so might have to cut off the first fret that way.) So, if Anyone can help me with this, It would be very apprieciated. thegarehanman told me the average labor cost shouldnt be over like $300 for a body, so add the wood (shouldnt be too much, $100 or so?) finish ($100 or so) and if I dont supply the fretboard, and have that made.. That is around the area I am looking to pay. If you can help me, or know someone who can, PM me! Thanks so much guys
  9. Yah possibly, I did see people putting up their designs though, least the beginning stages of them, so thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately, I dont get too much replies from the Solid body section. Sorry if it is though

  11. Hello guys, im SOOO sorry ive been posting alot lately on here, I am assuming im quite annoying, and I understand.. but this is like my dream guitar and im trying to get it just right, and inlays are quite important for it. After about 6 weeks of thinking hard about the inlays and going through 2-3 big ideas, I think I finally found the one I wanna go through with. It is basically the JEM vine inlay, with a small modification on the first fret. Instead of a leaf to end off the board, its a star pedal with some sun design around it. This only takes up this last fret. I found a very interesting thing on ebay, a guy who sells the ibanez Tree of life inlays, and fretboards, and I think someone from here said they designed it, so he is a trustworthy dude. and his prices are great! The only problem is I dont think he will modify the inlay for me, unfortunately.. and I don't know if I can do it myself, with no inlay experiance at all. I'll start out by posting the exact fretboard I want. Its maple, 25.5" scale, with Blue and red paua shell or abalone, whatever will give it a good vibrant look without looking cheap and crappy.. The guy on ebay uses Blue mirror and Red shell, and I think those materials look great, so Maybe go with those when I buy it.. http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i139/Nic...r/Vineboard.jpg Now here are the two ebay auctions where he sells the inlays and the board seperately. He does sell them already made, but unfortunately he doesnt do what you want, he just sells what he has left over, and the only one with the blue material I like, has this ugly knot in it.. Not to mention its cheaper buying the parts seperate. http://cgi.ebay.com/IBANEZ-FINGERBOARD-TRE...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/IBANEZ-TREE-OF-LIFE-IN...oQQcmdZViewItem Blue Mirror and Amber swirl pearloid look like the two colours I would like. Now to get the first fret done, it would be obvious we cant cover up the first fret there. I had the idea of cutting the first fret off, and just putting a whole new piece of the maple for the first fret, so you dont have to fill the wood.. Im not totally sure on how this part will work, maybe if someone can give me an idea. That would be good Anyways, My whole point of this thread, is I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me in some way to make this modification for my fretboard, maybe if someone has a cnc machine or can just help me out. It is only one fret, and the detail is not TOO hard, as I have the sun design (larger image) and the star, all I care is that it doesnt look bad lol.. I would really apperciate it if someone could help me. Say the two pieces off ebay comes to $50, then shipping.. and how ever much you want to charge for the labor/materials/etc as long as its reasonable, to make the adjustments, and then ship it back to me. I will pay all shipping fees and all labors fees, like I said, as long as its a reasonable fee. I mean I dont expect to pay $300 for 1 fret being inlaid, but if its within reason, I will be glad to pay it. If anyone wants to help a fellow guitarist out, I would be so thankful! Just PM me or reply here and we can talk it over for abit. Thanks Soo much!
  12. Actually me and my friend figured out a way to do it =] Since its only one fret I am going to replace, just cut off that one fret (first fret) and replace the whole fret entirely.. since u gotta have it split anyways for the fretwire, it should work.. I just gotta find someone to do it now, as my friend is not sure he wants to attempt it as its kinda hard.. Maybe ill ask somoene here in a new post hmm
  13. So.. if I bought a pre-inlaid fretboard (maple) and took one part of the inlay out, Is there anything that can fill the spot and make it look good? like maybe cutting another chunk of maple and putting it in the slot, then glueing it in? would that maybe work? Also, if theres a small dark spot in the maple... is it possible to bleach it or something to get it to go away? Such as the maple fretboard right here at the 13th fret http://cgi.ebay.ca/IBANEZ-FINGERBOARD-TREE...oQQcmdZViewItem
  14. I dunno how much money ill have in the future, esp after this guitar =/
  15. well its a friend of mine, and its not a big price im paying him, hes only made 3-4 guitars, and hasnt done any inlay work yet, but he is gonna try for me, but I need a backup because like I said, he's never done any inlay work before lol He lives like 2 hours away from me, and isnt charging alot, thats why im going to him over someone else like say on these forums, because shipping is only like $15 to ship a guitar from me to him, and I have to ship a box of parts out and such heh Hoping it works out though, but the most expensive part is all the friggin parts! and a inlaid fretboard is quite costly too, That and the trem are my only issues right now (finding an Edge pro for under $200US is impossible lol)
  16. Well the idea would transfer to maple, when you transfer the material.. I just dont think it looks as good on maple, as it would on rosewood.. Hopefully the price doesnt jump too much when crossing frets =[
  17. Hello people. I am a n00b at guitar building and etc, so bare with me. I am having a custom guitar built for me, and I want some nice inlays on it, and I designed a cool inlay set that would work good for Rosewood, but this first custom I want a maple fretboard, and unfortunately, with this inlay, it doesnt look too great on maple heh I was wondering if there is anyone here who can design cool inlays, and help me out, because im very artistically challenged. Also, if someone could make the fretboard for me, that would be a major plus also heh but mainly I just want the design made up, because I can't draw at all and have no idea how to make ideas click together Basically, My first inlays has normal Star inlays, with a sun at the 12th fret, and the All-seeing eye at the first fret.. Unfortunately I think it looks bad on maple.. Now what I was thinking would be really cool on Maple, since you can use color abalam to make it more vibrant, was something like the Jem Vine inlay, but instead of pedals it would be Stars or star-shaped pedals, with the very top of the vine being a big sun, with the all-seeing eye in the middle of that sun.. Thats just the idea that comes to mind right now, but I have no idea how to draw that so I dont know if it would look cool or not. The symbolism for my inlays on the Rosewood one, I have mountains at the 24th fret, to symbolize being grounded, what I have right now.. The stars to me represent hope and faith, dedication and goals (mainly because of Jason Becker, the inspiring guitarist fighting ALS and lived the past 16 years with the disease when he was given 4 years to live.. when I think of him I think of his version of When you wish apon a star, and he inspires me to never give up on my goals) Anyways, so the stars represent Hope... Then the sun to me represents the desire and passion to accomplish these goals and the burning fire to keep it up.. Then the all-seeing eye, is obvious I guess, To me though it represents the connection to our spiritual plane, as Steve Vai's song "Window to the soul" says, the window to our soul is our eyes.. connecting to the spiritual plane is the ultimate goal, reaching self-actualization and spiritual peace. If anyone could help me out, even if its just to mention some ideas on the forums here, That would be great! Thanks
  18. Hello. I am currently designing two project guitars, and I come down to most specs. All I need now is to order the parts, and get them made. The biggest part of my two designs are the fretboards. They have the thing that makes my guitar, mine.. And I need to have these fretboards or else its just like a normal guitar hehe.. I was going to have them made from Custominlays.com, and I got a good price quote on them of around $150US each, but I was wondering if maybe there was someone here who could do it for maybe abit less, my designs are not TOO difficult, actually for the most of it, you could just buy one of those kits online of star inlays, as that makes up almost the whole fretboard. If anyone can help me, give me a PM and I will show you what I want done, and you could price me on it and maybe we can get a deal done. Thanks!
  19. Hey, I just bought a big piece of Veneer im planning on putting on the top of a guitar.. I sanded down the guitar, and now when I unrolled the veneer, it came in a big piece, not sheets.. The veneer is not totally flat.. so I just put it under some weight to see if it will flatten down abit, but I have my doubts that it will be flat enough for glueing on.. Now I read somewhere, think on PG here that some veneer's are done using a vacuum, so the veneer is flat to the wood. Im not sure how to do this, and not sure I have the materials. so is there any other way to make sure the veneer is flat against the wood? I also saw that theres a Veneer flattening roller thing, not sure if thats what I would need at this point but im so lost lol this is my first project guitar Anyone able to help? Thanks
  20. Where can I find some good quilted maple veneers for cheap? If anyone has links or something, I would enjoy it. Thanks
  21. Hey all, im a noob at guitar building.. But I am deciding to refinish an old guitar rather than getting rid of it, so I was thinking getting a nice but cheap veneer finish, and just stain the rest of it.. now I read in another post you can buy Pre-dyed veneer? Can someone link me to this or give me some info on that?? It would be very helpful! Thanks! OH PS.. I am looking for quilted maple veneers.. obviously not 5A but pretty decent looking stuff.. In light blue preferably =] Thanks Actually.. if anyone can find DECENT LOOKING Quilted maple strips for cheap, that I can stain/dye myself.. That would be just as good.. Anyone able to help?? Thanks Abunch
  22. Do you make guitars like really good/professionally? Im looking for a neckthru RR style guitar to be built, willing to pay a good ammount of money =]
  23. Eh I dont think anyone will have my dream piece already in stock, since its down to my exact preferances.. heh but who knows. So, any luthiers on here wanna help me out? lol
  24. Yeah I care more about the final product and the guitar itself than the learning process.. I would love to start building guitars and such, but honestly it doesnt interest me that much. Just the idea of bringing my dream to a reality, thats what interests me from it, which is why i signed up here hehe
