  1. And heres my light walnut on my p-bass:) p-bass
  2. What is actually the difference between guitar and bass pickups? For distortion on a bass what would work best, a git or a bass pup?
  3. I think guitarists tend to be far more conservative than bass players. At least it used to be that way. I wonder if there is future for the gitar.. People are looking more and more to the past, not the future. And take a look at the hottest guitar heroes anno 2006..its Vai and Yngwie all over again.
  4. Of course theres many great vintage instruments, but the hype has gone way to far..Does anybody remember late eighties? Then (at least) bass players (guitarists may be a bit more conservative) used to play GREAT instruments...nowdays you often see, even pros, play crap.. as long its a *insertpopularguitarcompany* :-) logo on the headstock.
  5. I rememer beeing in NY ten years ago, and i tried some 60s Fender jazz basses, they went for between 10 - 15.ooo$ Where they worth it? Absolute not..
  6. [When I read his post, I thought he was referring to the relic'ing trend, that you see Fender relic stuff/info all the time, but you really don't hear much about trying to relic a LP or an SG very much] Thanks Drak. What i meant was the relic trend and the hype about old fenders sound so much better than new ones..(NOT what old gibsons are worth to collectors and others)...i dont see the same hype when it comes to Gibsons. Maybe im ignorant.
  7. Ok il drop the whole subject. Have you heard that it was actually the communists that made the les Paul...in order to make americans more interested in rock n roll and smoking pot than making war.
  8. hey relax...! Im just talking about guitars.. Ok...old les Pauls (i was thinking of them) are worth a lot (all old things are..after a while) but i have never heard how much better they sound than new ones. And...old les Pauls does not look better than a new one...Fenders does.
  9. Just i little think that struck me today Howcome theres not the same hype around old Gibsons, like theres with old Fenders? Is it because Gibsons doesnt LOOK better when aging, but Fenders does? I know this is not the right forum, but i guess many of you have views on this..
  10. The black Corina is measured : L x W x T 570 x 380 x 50mm Its from AF and shipping to Norway is 60 euro
  11. Is this black korina worth 100 euro? Black korina What do you think..
  12. Im planning to order some black limba from The Nederlands. They say the wood have some wormholes, but the worms died during drying. Is it safe? Limba
  13. Could it be cherry? looks a bit brown though.. How does it sound? My cherrywood gives a very high pitch tone when i knock on it. Have not made anything of it yet.
  14. Warmoth wenge/ebony baryton neck (i dont make my own necks) and emg 81-85. I have also made one walnut body guitar with single coils. They both sounds very lively and snappy..its like the wood loves to be played on I would say its tonal caracter is just between maple and mahogany.
  15. The instrument you see on this pic is a p-bass (in the making)..mahogany with walnut top. I have an all walnut guitar made of the same pice of wood...but i did not have a picture of it. I willl check out the weight of it..
  16. Im not shure but it weights a bit less than my alder strat.
  17. walnut? a friend of mine gave it to me, and he told me it was walnut...but when i think of it he use to work a lot with teak as well. But then again, teak is normally really heavy.
  18. Hi I have just made a guitar of walnut. Its very lightweight compared to eg maple and mahogany... I tought walnut was supposed to be in the category as those.. Im i just very lucky?
  19. I would go for the upright scale. Huge sound. You dont have to change the string that often...I play upright myself, and i change strings once a year, at the most.
  20. Why not try something youre heros dont use? Either way you are going to sound like you. I guess thats youre goal.
  21. Im working on a walnut guitar right now. My walnut is very light, not like mahogany at all, and its lovely to work with.. like butter. Tonewise..(at least my guitar) is much brighter than mahogany. It looks good as well. Odin
  22. Why so crazy about sustain..? I cant remember when i last tried a guitar where lack of sustain was the problem.
  23. I have an all maple guitar (body/neck) with the Fernandes sustainer system on, and its not that bright. I have compared the guitar with many others and its often less bright than many others...like an Ibanez basswood guitar with emg 81/85. I guess the fernandes pups are kind of bassy. The sustain is fantastic! I often have to check if the sustainiac is on, even when its not. And heres what all we maple enthusiasts love to say: George Lynch
  24. Its nice with sustain, but i cant really remember when i played a guitar and lack of sustain was a problem.. Why cant the fat finger guys make a device that makes me sound more brown..
  25. Does anyone know where i can buy a key holder, like the one Vai has on his guitars...?
