i had to edit dots in everywhere because the spacing went fudged on me when i posted, is there a way to get past this before i post some more advanced stuff?
Brian?.... anyone?
-
OK, here we go..
if we end up with a seperate techniques section, could someone move this?..
disclaimer:the following is IMOFO
Beginner tapping tips:
when i tap i use my middle mostly, and when needed... the ring and pinky
the index finger and thumb hold the pick so it's ready to pick if need be (how you do it is personal preferance, this is just what suits me)
i never use the pick to tap cos' to me it just doesn't sound as good and is harder to position.
something to always focus on is to hit every note clean(start at a snails pace til you've got this) and the timing of notes, i mean to hit (timing)1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4..or whatever perfectly. you don't want to be accidentally going 1-2---3-41--23--4
remember kids, always sttaarrtt slooooowwwlly
i assume you understand how to actually 'tap', if not, remember you're only a fool if you don't ask
onto the licks!
here's some basic patterns to try anywhere on the fretboard on any strings:
a 'T' above a note means it is tapped
(assume no note is picked unless a stroke(V=down,^=up) is placed above the TAB, assume it's legato )
1: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3:
. T. . . . . . . T . . . . . . . . . . T . . . . . . .T . . . . . . . . .T . . . . . . . . . T
-12--9--7--12--9--7 . . . . -12--7--9--12--7--9 . . .-12--9--7--9--12--9--7--9
4:
. T . . . . . . .T . . . . . . .T . . . . . . T
-12--7--9--12--9--7--12--7--9--12--9--7
a cool effect for a trill:
.T . . . . . . . .T
-8--6--8--6--8--6--8--6
now here's an easy one of satch's:
(tap every 12th fret only)
-11--12--0--11--12--0--9--12--0--7--12--0--9--12--0--7--12--0--5--12--0--7--12--0
-9--12--0--7--12--0--5--12--0--7--12--0--9--12--0--7--12--0--7--12--0--7--12--0
-11--12--0--11--12--0--9--12--0--7--12--0--9--12--0--7--12--0--5--12--0--7--12--0
-9--12--0--7--12--0--5--12--0--4--12--0--2--12--0--2--12--0--2--12--0--2--12--0
if anyone doesn't understand something, just ask
more to come soon,

hey brian, how about a small playing techniques section?
...so we could have different topics
-
gotta go... i'll post tonight..
-
what level of tapping would you say you're at?(i don't believe in levels, but for the purpose of this conversation......)
-
if you're really interested, when i get home tonight i could dig up some tapping run TABs, and post them......
-
...are you a vai fan, canuck?
yup
i love Vai's tapping runs, so innovative!!!!!!
-
...and you can then start messin round with sliding to another note with the tap,
sweep taps, legato...anything's possible,
...are you a vai fan, canuck?
-
Tapping-
it's done with the picking hand (usually fingers or sometimes the pick)
you fret the note just as you would with the fretting hand
Tapping simply gives you an extra couple of fingers and reach to use
(and tap harmonics) and speeds can increase greatly as a result..
-
cool, now you gotta try to catch up to wes...
-
cccooooooooolll!!!!!!!
-
wow!! that strat looks sweet!!!!!
-
my fave is the purple one!
...another jemsiter enters the fray
welcome!!!!
-
lalalalalaLO PRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hands down....
-
wow man,now that's ingenuity...you're like maguyver!
yeah! i love it, just cos of the wacky ideas!!
-
beautiful.... just beautiful.....
-
awesome!! can't wait to see the finished product!
that neck reminds me of Mr.Gilberto....
-
yep i was wrong, plus the neck pocket angle wouldn't work out with a strat bridge
-
yes, you could use a strat bridge
-
you might want to be a little more specific....
there are many types and shapes..
-
-
the general rule (not meant to be followed strictly)
is you don't put gain effects in the loop(wah, dist, OD...etc)
-
black and regular(chrome) would look classy.....
