Hi Michael
whereabouts in Aus are you?
i'm in Tassie
can't really help you in finding wood
have you asked any luthiers?
there are a lot of people overseas that could make a body for you though
-
i guess this is one of those things where you gotta strip the guitar and see how it's connected first
in the next couple of weeks i hope to refinish an RG7620 and maybe a
Yamaha RBX765a (bass)
cool site speedy, have you read the thing on electrical shock?
that's bloody scary!
-
You just have to make sure that on some part the shielding paint has to connect to the earth wire, usually found on the back of the volume pot, or the wire that runs from the bridge.
Thanks,
did you mean the earth wire i need to connect the shielding to is found on the bridge or volume pot,
or,
that the connection to the shielding can be found there
therefore i don't have to worry that i'm covering the whole pickup cavity with paint?
-
don't know much about the layer of shielding paint under the pickups
does it matter that it gets covered in a layer of paint and sealant
when refinishing?
will it affect anything?
people don't seem to mind that it's covered just as long as it's there undeneath...but why?
questionsquestionsquestions
i never seem to runout

ok sorry,misinterpreted the question
and i meant to say wood is organic therefore a feature it possesses
is that no two are the same
(jus worded wrong)
i know what it means
-
and if it's the same quality/wood..etc
then the sound should be basically the same
i say basically because wood is organic(no two the same)
-
many people build their own bodies
there's a few tutorials on it in the main site
and some of the members here have made their own

OMG first jem on the moon!
one small step for jems
one giant leap for ibanez!

same thing i'm doing soon

:o whoa 5.6cm? for neck dots?
you sure this is the right measurement?
-
thanks
that is what i thought you meant but i was a bit unsure
cheers for clearing things up though,
appreciate it
-
what shape and size is the inlay?
-
just thought i'd chime in and say that is one classy lookin guitar
seriously awesome job bro!!

However, I believe that the dots in the JEM are metric. your best bet for the new dots are, cut off thin slices from a clear acrylic rod, then it's perfectly round,
ok i feel really stupid now
but some things about the brass tube aren't making total sense yet
if it's used the way i think you mean then what difference does it make if
it's perfectly round to start with
if i'm right then does this mean i need different size brass tubes for each different size cutout?
and do you mean by "the dots in the JEM are metric" that they are all uniform sizes?
sorry, but i just want to be sure

Thanks
i had to edit my post cause it did this © too
Possible Swirl tip...
in Inlays and Finishing Chat
Posted
 you probably couldn't swirl the paint with the dryer as you usually need something physically moving through it
and if it did work you would get really boring patterns no intricate detailed swirls
an idea i've been kicking round is after you dip the guitar in
what if you used something to suck the paint out like a pump or something?
