If i were to laminate two pieces of bubinga, 7/8" thick to create a body 1 3/4" thick would this work? or is it best avoided? i am sorry but i'm new to this if its a stupid question.
my thinking behind it being if you can put on a maple top, 1/4" thick, why not make it the same material but half and half thickness?
this is only due to wood i've seen available...
cheers
thanks TenderSurrender, like i say, i have an explorer here that i can reference off, that was my thinking. but yeah, i think i'll go for an explorer. where can you suggest wood supplies from as i see you are from the UK?
Thanks
i was looking in a timber merchants today for some mahogany,... no luck there but they did have some Meranti - red hardwood. Anyone heard of this? is it any good for a body and neck? help please i know you guys are up on your woods so i eagerly wait your answers.....
Thanx
Hi all,
Just want to say hello to everyone. I am based in the UK and have just recieved my copy of MYOEG. I cant wait to get started coz its something i've wanted to do for years. I must say, i am a mad explorer lover and would love to make one ASAP, but i'm wondering if this is a good (or simple enough) guitar to start off with. I have my '76 gibson explorer as a ref. what would your thoughts be?
I've been viewing th forum for a while now and some of the stuff on here is fantastic!! keep up the good work and hopefully i'll have something to put on in the near future.
Thanks all
