  1. Always consult the Fret Calculator from StewMac

Just type in the number of frets you want (17) and scale (which is in your case fender = 25.5")

but isn't 25.5 way too long for a cigar box. 25.5" is the length from the bridge to the nut. Unless you set the bridge way back at the cigar box. I'd try to shorten the scale for the neck strength.

I've seen (can't say many as I don't see cigar boxes alot) some cigar boxes with acoustic joints, and that's all I know. Just wait for someone to chime in.

    and Good Luck!

  2. usually rosewoods really don't need more oil.. I'd leave it unfinished and maybe years later if the oil on the fingerboard runs out, or dries out, as it tends to, you can apply it from there.

unless of course, this is for a used guitar which you find the fingerboard sticky.

if you could get your hands on tung oil, I'd recomment that over lemon oils..

  3. for me, it's a wah if you already have a dist/OD (prefer OD)

but the tones I can get from wah with the dist + guitar tone/treble bleed

I love the access, and of course slight wahs here and there

(I have a Boss GT8, but am thinking of getting a seperate wah to carry around, cuz GT8 is just too big..)

  4. What I meant was keep the black and white stripes but instead of going across the body just do thin stripes of black and white that are the same shape as the body. They get smaller as they get closer to the middle of the body. Kind of like Zakk Wylde's bullseye but in the shape of your guitar.

    -1.

Personally, I think that'd look ugly. I'd assume you shop at Club Monaco! :D (known for its black/white theme)

I could suggest you painting it something like the color of dried blood... You know that thick/dark raspberry color? And keep that thing dripping and you can keep your stripes too, and the other color can be either white or black, black would be nicer.

    Just a suggestion.

Oh and when you drip, drip it a little sideways, so make it seems like its dripping a little away from the neck.

It kinda gives off the "speed/shred" theme.

My (Canadian) 2 cents. (~1.8 cents USD)

  5. Nice project! Is this a carve top?

For the body shape. That top horn looks much too thin to be a PRS, is that what you intended?

Can you give us some specs?

How thick is the guitar? 24 or 22 frets (I'm always interested to know the # of frets in PRS's).

If I remember correctly, this is your 2nd guitar?

    Keep up the good work!

  6. That 3d model is fantastic!

holy crap... that's 3d? didn't even notice it was a graphic until you mentioned that...

kinda reminds me of how I almost got fooled by that FinalFantasy movie(s)...

for me, it doesn't connect. the body shape and the finish. I think the body calls for a little heavier distorted colors. I think you could get away with anything that could look a little evil, but white/black don't feel at home for that body. my (canadian) 2 cents.

  7. Ok sorry. I gotta clarify what I meant by upbow. It meant the middle was LOWER than the ends.

I put some force on the truss rod and now its almost flat with a slight.. very slight bow, like how it would be like on many setups.

So is this a problem or if I leave it with no turning of the truss rod what so ever, it would go back?

I don't think it would be much of a problem, but did anybody have a similar experience? Is this common?

  8. K, I fretted everything and the neck is practically ready to be glued in

But after I fretted I noticed there was an upbow in the neck, which wasn't there before..

    What's going on?

Is it possible that med-high humidity here did this?

I put a little force on the truss rod to counter it, but can someone explain?

    !!!!!!

  9. Quite the workspace you got there.

With guitarhero and all. Personally, I would have liked to see a little graphic touch up on guitars like these. Red/black.

Nice guitar nonetheless, how's your neck profile? Shape? Thickness?

    Keep up the good work!

  10. Haha thx for the offer, but I have a due date for this build (it's a PRS-ish I'll post when I'm done), I need to do as much work over the weekends.

I've never been to A&M, but been to Exotic Woods (Burlington) alot.

I'll take a visit to Cambridge when I visit my bro in Waterloo.

I'm guessing it's lot better than ExoticWoods though, as ExoticWoods wasn't really much of a "guitar store" it had a fewww section on it. But contrary to the name, I didn't find their wood much exotic, except pen/bowl blanks, some of them were pretty exotic.. cherry, purpleheart, french walnut, but in small portions

For the design, I prefer the Jackson headstock with Kelly's because it flows in the same direction as the body does.

Kelly's are known for their 'off-shape' design, but the headstock and the body shape really compliment each other, imo.

  11. Oh yea I forgot to mention..

I have a Saga Strat style.

I first custom painted so that there was a face of this girl in the front

I really hated the feel of the guitar and the playability

So recently I took it all apart. I profiled the neck to a cross between C and a D, (I like it this way)

And I hollowed (semi hollow) out the basswood body, it has about 10 little chambers in total with a gigantic one right in the bass side for the "f" hole

I then capped it with maple and now it's waiting for the final sand down, control cavitiy route, and finish, which will be natural in the front, and solid brown in the back and sides.

And got 'em the 'buckers, whole new hardware (the bridge, tuners, electronics, etc)

I think I spent about an additional $100CAD on this project. I bought it for $70 last August so, it ain't too bad. The wood is salvagable, certainly not my pick, but yea, salvagable.

  12. Understanding diatonic scale and its modes and melodic minor and its modes throughout the fretboard will give you huge amounts of room to play.

Or if you got the ear, work with it..

On the other hand... I have a huge poster showing me all the modes in my brother's/my guitar chamber room. Very fun indeed.
