  1. thanks for the replys.

Seriously, making necks is fun, and not that difficult.

thats the general concensus i've found. im the type of person that will buy any tool that will make my job easier but when i carved the contour in the back of the guitar i just finished it was extremely satisfying.

  2. hello there. i've just completed my first completed guitar and am on to my next (building these darn things is about as addictive as gettin inked)

with the build i just finished the only thing i dont like about it is the neck (fender). so, im gonna build a neck through 25"scale with multiple laminations. 3 maple 2 bloodwood stringers and ebony FB (stewmac/lmii). im working out the measurements of each peice full scale on paper first. i picked up the last of the wood today(bloodwood). i have enough maple for 3-4 necks and enough bloodwood for the 2 stringers (.25") and possibly a fretboard (if its possible to use as such). body will be alder.

anyway, i was just looking for a few tips as this is my first attempt at carving a neck.

    thanks for any advice.

  3. your might need more than a 6 gallon tank. with a syphon feed gun like that you will likely need to spray at around 35-40psi at the gun. i had (recently stolen) a 3cfm @ 90psi compressor with a 13 gallon tank that was barely able to hold enough air in the tank so that the compressor wasnt running constant while spraying at 15psi at the gun (automotive gravity feed HVLP), compressor kicked in every min or 2

    just a thought

  4. thanks, i dont think the headstock fits either, but im just waiting for my brother to order the neck he wants, then ill cut a headstock that fits and have the same guy finish it. the controls are a little close, im waiting for the right knobs to come in, they'll give a little more room between them than these do.

  5. i built this guitar for my brother as a christmas gift.

as of right now it just needs a few tweeks here and there. (yes it still needs to be sanded and buffed, gonna give that micromesh a try in a couple months)

body is 2 peice sapele almost 2"thick.(after sanding)

dimarzio tonezone in bridge and duncan hotrails in neck. it has a 5 position rotary switch, 1 volume per pickup, master tone, and a mini toggle for phase reverse on the duncan. neck is a squire POS untill he buys the neck he wants for it. (i chose a fender neck because it the scale and heel mach the one he is gonna order for it)

the guitar was painted by a very good friend with a custom red pearl that flips to a copper colour under different lighting.

this pic shows the shift quite well

overall i think it turned out alright for my first finished guitar, (last one hit the WOD before it could be finished). next one will have the bridge pickup closer to the bridge.

    opinions welcome

  6. sorry, had some problems posting this the first time.

my brother is looking for a tone circut that rather than rolling off the low end will roll off both low and high freq's. when fully engaged he would like it to have a midrange "lofi" sound. just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible, thanks

  7. i have a prs style 5way 4pole rotory switch coming from stewmac. the guitar its going is has a dimarzzio hb in bridge (4conductor) and single coil in neck.

    im looking for this:

    1-hb

    2-outer coil

    3-outer coil/sc

    4-inner coil/sc

    5-sc

is this even an option????? :D

if so could anyone come up with a wiring diagram (i also have an on/on mini toggle for phase reversal?) B)

    thanks for any help :D
