Here It Is, All Done!
im 17, this is my second build
hope you like it
-
PRIMER. this could only mean that the next step is going to be a shiny coat of paint
-
lol seems like i got more editing to do, lol
-
alright yeah i kinda thought it was too long, but thats why i posted here, you guys know better than i do. im still learning here!!
lol, anyways, ben that looks better! ill fix it up in photoshop soon enough, and i think i should have spent more time centering the cutout between the spikes too.
thanks guys. keep the comments coming
***EDIT: redrew the guitar, reposted on post#1
-
haha you guys are killing me.
i purposely put the left point longer, i think it looks a little better that way
the headstock will defintly be angled down (c'mon guys i just said this is an idea, i wouldnt have built that mistake)
and Mickguard i will move the treble side down a bit, your right
any more comments
i love the blue flamed maple top!!!!
-
ok soo im 17 now i have some experience since my devastator build and my precision
now im gonna make a flying V plus neck. ALL OF IT!
so far i put down my idea on photoshop
what do you think?
let me know so i can refine it
**EDITED SKETCHUP**: better treble access, shorter and centered circular cutout between spikes
-
good idea
btw...

That is a very nice looking instrument you have there. If it were mine though, I wouldnt paint it, i would stain the body with a natural wood stain and try to match it with the neck a bit. Black body with a black pickguard looks strange IMO. No matter what you do to paint or finish this bass, I'm sure it will look and play well. Nice job.
yaeah i was debating the natural finish.
but then i saw this
id say it looks sexual
-
any useful commentary?
p.s.
this is the logo for the headstock (gold one)
-
hey hows it going.
i havent posted since my devastator build.
anyways, ive started my own great precision bass.
its pretty close to being done, ccccheck it!
full shot, no J Pickup route.
http://photos-303.ak.facebook.com/ip002/v5...8_2303_1844.jpg
body as of now.
for pickups im using an active EMG P-J set. should sound killer!
the neck is again bought, i dont have the tools yet to do up my own. its maple with a nice nitro finish and gold frets. all the hardware are going to be gold, the bass will be painted all black.
last thing to put in are the string through ferrules, the bridge has the option between string through and bridge mounted.
let me know what you think so far!!!
-
heh, thanks. dont forget im only 16 too
nice job Scott French, looks sick
-
alright, this is really noobish. i just finished building a bass guitar for myself.. check guitar of the month thread for may to see pictures. now my sister wants me to make her a guitar, but what i noticed on guitars is a neck angle. is this necessary? how do i find the angle? is there even an angle or am i on drugs? please help, i really want to get started on this project. thanks a bunch!
i noticed a thread on determining this.. but is it something i must do?
-
my devastator bass, that i completed less than 2 weeks ago.
the bass is inspired by jerry onlys bass from the misfits
body: alder
pickups: lace sensor
bridge: Badass
neck: warmoth bolt on maple w/ rosewood
paint: black with color changing purple metallic
tuners: gotoh
electronics: all on back of bass, compartment lights up
strings: rotosound

^^^lights on back in control area, they turn on when jack is plugged in**
hope you like it! its my first build, i am 16 years old
-
and its done!
sorry for not keeping you al updated on the way

hello
this weekend im going to be finishing off my bass guitar build and i wanted to know how to ground the electronics to the bridge. the bridge is painted black so will i need to sand some paint off and solder the ground to the bridge? or should i use a washer and place it around one of the screws, which are also black? thanks a lot!
-
hey!
i read in a book that there is this conductive paint that is used to keep the electronics from interpherance.
where do i find this paint? is there a spray version? how much does it cost? what do you guys use?
thanks a lot!

sorry about the other thread
alright everybody, its progress time!
so ive got my neck bolted on, lights wired, bridge mounted!
its starting to look like a bass guitar!

a picture of the back shows that i needed to use ferrules instead of a plate to bolt the neck on, i also need to trim and finish the mortise there so ignore the extra wood/uglyness. you can also see the knobs and electronics compartment.

alright so today i actually had my wisdom teeth removed and currently cant feel my tongue or lips. my mouth is full of bloody gauze and im on tylenol 3's
but, im feeling better than i expected and have an excuse not to go to work.
soo i have lots more time to work on this beast!
what i have left is:
- Fix action by shimming mortise
- Clean up mortise
- Route pickup cavities
- Drill channels for wires
- Sheild all electronic compartmets with special paint
- Final sand
- Mask off fretboard, mortise and cavities
- Get this beast prepped and painted
- Wire pickups, ground, ect..
- Put on strings and set antonation action etc.
- Play it at the battle of the bands
The list may seem long but it isnt, i can get most of it done in one good day.
ill keep you all posted
now lets hear some feedback!
sorry about the other thread

i cant wait to have it put on!
just one question, what order should i follow when putting the neck in. i have to rout out the pocket and the bridge isnt installed, so what should i start with? install the bridge first or the neck? i wanna make sure its straight of course, so what would you recommend i do?
thanks a lot

Use the jack on the right. Run the hot (signal) to the tip, and the earth (ground) to the ring. This will leave on available terminal, which you connect your battery to. Then, when the plug is inserted, the plug bridges the earth and the power from the battery, completing the circuit.
This is a very common thing to do with active guitar electronics, or FX - a google search for schematics and some nosing around should find you some schematics or diagrams very quickly.
thanks a lot everyone! i finally understand
-
lol i feel like such a noob with this electrical stuff. arg
ok, im not fully understanding the jack im suppose to use.
now THIS is the cable i use. the jack i use is the ONE ON THE LEFT so now i need the one on the right, right? does this mean i need a different cable too?
if someone could.. i really need some schematics
-
TRS=Tip/Ring/Sleeve=Stereo
and a button battery should do the trick?
i assume i can find these TRS jacks at any guitar shop..
anyone up to drawing some schematics?
