  1. Long story here...I've been working on a flat top Les Paul for about a year now thanks to a friend of mine's CNC shop.

The body is 2-piece mahogany and has been machined and even already painted (but you could easily sand off the paint and start your design).

The neck is machined and half-rounded. The neck is not painted or even primed yet. The headstock hasn't been drilled or cut for headstock inlay. Consider it a blank.

I also have a rosewood fretboard with REAL MOP split-block inlays that I've started to cut down to the proper width. The length is perfect...no need to modify that at all.

I even have other accessories like: chrome keystone tuner, 4 pots, clear speed knobs, chrome Les Paul-style humbuckers (generic), chrome toggle switch and pearloid Gibson headstock logo and and split diamond ready for inlay.

Two things have happened to make me sell it.

    1. I don't have access to the machine shop anymore and don't have the skills to do the remainder of the work by hand.

    2. My family's car is broken down and I need a lot of money to fix it.

So, if anyone is interested in an 85% finished Les Paul project with all the accessories I listed above, send me an email and I can send pictures and we can discuss it further.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  2. I know some people don't like Ovation guitars, and some people just freakin' hate them, but I've always thought it would be fun to build one, or at least something similar.

I've never built an acoustic guitar and don't even know what is available as a "kit" out there. I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me and point me in the right direction.

    Any help is appreciated.

  3. Yeah, I can get the inlay material (pearloid), I just haven't yet until I determined if I could find someone to do it for me at a reasonable price.

The fretboard is maple and currently has black "standard" dots...nothing fancy or troublesome to modify.

    What do you think?

    Steve

  4. A picture? Are you not familiar with the Ibanez Jem disappearing pyramid inlay? As far as my expectation of the finished product, I expect it to be damn near perfect. Otherwise, I'd try it myself.

Like I said, this is my only neck...it's not a project neck and I honestly can't afford to have anything go "wrong" with it that would affect the playing.

  5. So you want the inlays to practice with and then when you've perfected it, I would send you the neck? Is that correct?

What would you charge me to do it and would that include refretting?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Sorry, "try" was a bad word choice, I wouldn't want to go with no confidence either...  I wouldn't do a first run of anything on a finished product.

  6. Okay...this will probably seem like a simple thing to you inlay Gods, but to me, it's not.

I need help doing a pyramid inlay on the neck of my guitar. If I provide you with the pre cut, pearloid materials, would any of you be willing to do the actual inlaying for me?

I'm by no means a rich man, but I would be willing to pay for the work if I can afford it. Drop me a line if you're open to chatting about it.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  7. I had the body painted with HOK Platinum Pearl but didn't have the neck ready at the time. The painter was supposed to do the neck for me too, but has now backed out of it.

If I don't use the same product & color, the neck won't match the body. Thanks for the advice about the Harley shop, LGM. I'll give 'em a call.

If I can't find anyone locally, would anyone here be willing to help?

  8. Actually...no. I don't have any sort of adequate set up, but I don't have much of a choice.

I only need this neck painted so it's not worth putting the money into a "proper" set up. Know what I mean?

:D Dunno - my experience with HOK is very limited, and I only have a gravity feed gun. Jeremy (LGM) should know, though, I think he's used it quite a bit, so maybe he'll let us know what he thinks.

BTW, you do have a safe setup for shooting component paints, right? That stuff'll kill you if you're not careful!  :D

  9. Hey Guys,

This may sound odd, but I need just a little bit of HOK paint...just enough to paint the neck of the guitar I'm building.

Since this paint isn't cheap, I'd rather not buy a quart, use half of it and then have the rest sit around for who knows how long.

I thought I'd take a chance and see if any of the paint gurus might have what I need in a smaller amount.

Specifically, I'm looking for Platinum Pearl (PBC-42) and some reducer. Maybe a pint of each since I'm only doing the neck and headstock.

So, if anyone has some and would be willing to sell it to me, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  10. Chrome, gold, etc...?

i just replaced the pickups in  my les paul studio with emg 81/85

so i have these for sale

    gibson u.s.a. pickups

they claim these pickups are 490r and 498t,BUT both pickups have "t" stamped on the back,so i suspect they are both the 498t...but i don't know if that is what it means or not.

these pickups will be shipped with ALL the electronics that came with the guitar(minus the three way, which i reused)...2 volume,2 tone, which are still attached to some sort of metal plate(grounding plate?)all the wiring is still intact on the plate, all i snipped were what was necessary to remove the pickups from the guitar..i snipped them right at the ends...and there was alot of extra wire,so the leads are still long enough for anything you might want.also the jack also comes with it...mono jack...still wired

the pots are the large diameter shafted ones...

really i think these are perfect for anyone building a les paul

anyways...$60 for everything, and that includes shipping anywhere...as long as the shipping does not go over about $10.i have shipped a pickup to australia for $7 so i think the u.s. and most other countries would be fine.

  11. Dude...check the tutorials on the main page www.projectguitar.com. You'll find a complete tutorial there.

Stupid me, i accidentally posted this in the general forum... but anyway... Everyday i find new options i can use to customize my Rg--->Jem conversion... Im thinking maybe I might want to do a swirl job on it using the tut here... I've seen some links people posted in the past but they all dont work cause it was like 2002, anyone know any links to pics of peoples custom swirls? Anyone done this or know of anyone who has, or know things to watch out for?

  12. Hi,

A while back, someone posted a couple links to different guitar kit companies (other than Warmouth). One offered Les Paul kits, complete with flamed or maple tops at really good prices.

I thought I had saved the link, but can't find it now. So, if you have this link that I'm looking for, please post it or send me an email.

    Thank you,

    Steve

  13. Just curious...where do you find the Testors metal flake paint?

    Thanks,

    Steve

mirage makes some, as well. you can get those at just about any auto store.

when i go for a metallic finish and don't have the time or money to do it the real way, i grab a can of testors metal-flake. they make it in a ton of colors, and it looks amazing, as well as applies smooth as ice. i've had almost zero problems with it in the past when talking about orange peel or cracking.

  14. Hey Guys,

I got a penumatic paint sprayer from my kids for Christmas and this, of course, raised some questions since I've never used one.

This is a bottom-feed gun, not the more expensive gravity feed guns. I'd love to hear any tips anyone could post about using one of these guns including:

    - Type of paint to use for gloss black finish

    - What to use to thin the paint/ratios

    - Any and all tips

Thanks guys...I hope everyone here is having a GREAT holiday!!!

    Steve
