  1. From what I know...and I'm no expert, the inlay material you buy is flat. You inlay them into a radiused board leaving some of the inlay material stickin up above the board and then sand it down.

I'm sure someone with much more knowledge than I have can chime in and go into more detail...

  2. Yeah, I do too and I'm not trying to take anything away from him, just passing along some info. I thought his prices were excellent considering the materials he uses. As always, make your own decision about who to use for your project.

  3. Yeah, I get what you mean and it's a cool idea, but I really dig what I came up with and am anxious to see if I can pull it off.

I'm thinking I'll cut the black leather first by laying the body face down on it and cutting it precisely with an xacto knife and then hand cut the grey flames and have them sewn on. Then, I'll try to glue the whole thing to the body.

    Hopefully it will work...

  4. Alright, bear with me here...I've got an idea, but I need a little help if possible.

I'm doing a black leather top on my Les Paul project and I had the idea of adding some grey leather flames (classic style) to it coming up from the bottom. I can even have the grey flames sown on top of the black leather.

The problem I'm having, is that I can't draw and can't find any scalable images of flames that would work and fit the basic shape of the Les Paul.

So, if anyone out there is a graphics guru (and I know there are), would you be able or willing to help me with this?

    Thanks,

    Steve

  5. Alright, I've been hanging around here forever, asking a ton of question and being a general pain in the ass trying to decide on my first project and how to do it. So, here are a couple photos of my project so far.

I'm doing a flat-top Les Paul that I plan to cover the top with black leather (faux) and paint the sides and back gloss black with the classic-style silver/mirror flames on the back. The body is made from two pieces of mahogany glued together.

Click on the link below to see a couple photos. Neck photos will hopefully be posted next weekend.
