Yeah, Les Paul bodies are mahogany and the carved top is standardly 5/8" thick maple. You can choose between the flamed or quilted types depending on what sort of finish you're going for.

I'm happy to work on whatever design everyone finally decides on, including contacting vendors (if need be) to ask for permission to use their product on the shirt.

There's probably someone that con do a better job at design than I can, but I'm happy to run with it if we can agreement on what we want.

So...Brian and the other MODs, what do you see as the next steps with this?

Yeah, I thought about doing a Jem as well, but kinda liked the Strat look on there better for whatever reason.

I really like the PG-rating thing. However, would it be better, instead of saying Parental Guidance, to instead put Project Guitar.

I'd like to have this printed in white on the back of black t-shirt and then just have www.projectguitar.com printed in white on the front on the left pocket "area."

What do you think?

I have trouble finding what I'm looking for in the searches sometimes too. Did you look through the tutorials on the main page of projectguitar.com?

For what my opinion is worth, clear coating it would seem to be the thing to do. You don't want your work to only last a few months when it could last years under a clear coat.

I'd suggest doing a search for this subject. I'm sure you'll find the information there that will help you decide if you want to do it yourself

Wow...I feel a bit flamed. I never have any lucking finding anything on the search and thought I'd piggy back on this topic.

I've obviously misunderstood. So, do I even need sanding sealer on top of the veneer?

I have some connections with a t-shirt print shop here in Denver and would be happy to get a quote from them when we get to that point. Let me know if I can help!

So...you should put sanding sealer on the veneer top BEFORE adding the stain/dye and then sand it back down to the original wood? Is this correct? If so, what grit paper would you recommend to use?

By the way...I'm using Titebond Supreme glue that I got from a Hardwood dealer. Supposedly it is better than the store bought Titebond because there aren't as many shelf-life prolonging additives in it.

I'm applying a veneer top to a guitar I'm making and wondered if there are any problems with the veneer chipping or cracking while routing the edges.

I'm doing a flat top, veneer Les Paul. This is my first build which explains why I'm doing a flat top veneer instead of the cool carved top. Also, again since it's my first build, binding may be beyond my skills at this point as well.

What would you think if I were to apply the veneer, then route the edge of the body, mask that and then paint it. Would give a cool binding effect or would it look odd?

I've got a question...you metioned a faux binding...what is that? Is that where you simply route the edge and mask it off so no paint/stain/whatever gets on that part?

We got off track somewhere.

I'm not looking for flamed maple mounting rings...I was looking for a chrome pick up cover that has grey flames on it, similar to the ones Gibson made in 1957. I thought there might be covers like this somewhere.

I think I'm just going to make my own since the only one I've found in discontinued.

I've got a Fender standard rosewood fret board (unfretted, no inlays) that I'm willing to trade for a Gibson truss rod.

When building a Les Paul, can some tell me two things:

1-Does the nut "sit" at the top of the 1st fret or is it inlaid into the fret?

2-What is the length of the 1st fret?
