  1. Hi mate, nice work thhere, can i please get a soundclip i remember years back me and a mate built sone out of plywood and a mdf neck it looked exactly like that but with a "O"O soundhole in the middle good on ya Nathan
  2. Hi guys, loong time no edit on this topic. well.................... I have done quite abit of work on the iceman, work that you people could do in a couple of days that took me months....lol, school........ I have everything "routed" out with a electric drill (except for neck pocket) and sanded, wood filled, neck is done, freatboard is on and all it needs is radiusing and freting, temporarily strung it up and made "fake" frets adn it sounds really nice!! I put a pc micraphone in the pickup cavities and ran it through the computer and it sounds exactly like a high quality acoustic, ha..But i want a hard rocking iceman so i am winding my own pickups, as i previously have on my bass(now sold), bought my switches, tone/vol pots, bridge, input jack etc....Cant wait to finish it. Finish will be simple black. I will give the guitar about 7 coats of "modeling dope" clear wood sealer, with light sanding inbetween coats, then a couple coats of paint then the gloss hopefully it should turn out o.k. Thanks for the help guys on the forum, not personally teaching ME, but all the useful thinkg youve posted on this site that i have came across, Thankyou I will upload pic tomorrow if my camera works Nathan
  3. PICS!!!!!!! QUICK!!! lol, SOunds like alot of fun, more fun than my iceman "in progress" id sure like to build a violin some day..... Good luck Nathan
  4. Yeh thats what i was tyring to ask.... Thanks for the quick answer I had a feeling it was the opposite , oh well liveand learn. Also when routing the depth for the truss rod, should it stay at one level or get deeper in the middle? Thanks alot
  5. ----------------------------------ICEMAN ---------------------------------------------- Lol Hi guys, im building a Iceman style guitar, its my 1st guitar ive attempted to make I got a front on pic from the net, printed it out full size, transfered to mdf and made a template I then transfered that to a beautiful piece of Extreamly hard and heavy "Tasmanian Oak" Which i believe gives good sustain am i right? I have recently cut the body out and in a few days am going to rout out the neck pocket, pickup cavities and control cavities. I half built my neck so far. Neck is built out of 2 pieces of A Grade Red Meranti which was a really dry and hard piece that i found. I then cut a 13 degree angle for the headstock and glued it on and clamped it. Its a realy strong bond i can put it on the table and push down real hard on the joint and it has no sign of stress.........yet I have a Rosewood fretboard yet to be glued on, and a homemade trussrod that works great, my only question is, the trussrod, When a trussrod is tightened, one rod should bend and the other stays straight?am i right. If so, should the side that bends be placed up(to the fretboard) or down to the , well bottom of the neck? Thanks alot So far it looks real nice and ill get some pics in about 4-6 days so i can do some more work on it and + its at school (yr10) and ive been using their machines Sorry to make you guys wait Will be using Homemade humbuckers and tom bridge. Btw the scale is 24 3/4" Scale with 22 frets Thanks for listening Pics in a few days Nathan
  6. Ok guys thanks so much for that. i didnt really know what i was looking for thanks!
  7. Hi, i am currently building my guitar. but i am just trying to be sure where to mount my TOM bridge. I have a 22 fret neck at a 22 5/8" Scale. So i measure 22 3/5" from the nut to the bridge, right? Ok simple enough, but all the TOM bridges (and my LP) are angled? So do i measure 22 3/5" from nut to the low E side of the bridge or High E side? Does there need to be a slant on the bridge. I hope you know what i mean Ill try to draw a pic (exaggerated) .TAIL PIECE...........BRIDGE.....................................NUT 0-----------/-------------------------------------------| Measure 22 /58" from topend of Bridge to nut 0----------/--------------------------------------------| 0---------/---------------------------------------------| 0--------/----------------------------------------------| 0-------/-----------------------------------------------| 0------/------------------------------------------------| Or from Low end to nut? Sorry if you cant understand what i mean. Thanks a heap, in advance Nathan
