  1. well to be fair the finish still hasnt hardened off properly, but i couldnt wait. i have it resting in a way that it wont get any marks on it ill it has hardened off. and i played it for a while today, it feels so fluid and easy to play, and those pickups are fantastic
  2. put a couple of links to pics of the back on hte guitar of the month entry
  3. good point! in my haste i totally forgot to do any. maybe tomorrow if i remember
  4. no its not a hipshot, it looks very much like one but its a cheap version. but still very good quality. i was surprised when i got it. and it seems to be very nice so far
  5. it took way too long, but its finally finished. "Desiree" Spec: Chambered Sapele back Flame maple top and neck Ebony fingerboard Bare Knuckle Miracle Man humbuckers - each with volume/coil tap, 3-way toggle and master tone Gotoh 510 tuners back pic 1 pic 2
  6. well its FINALLY done. got it all put together and wired up (again) and i eventually got to play it properly. and i love it. if anyones thinking about getting some bare knuckle pickups, stop thinking and get them now! they are gorgeous! anyay, heres a pic or two i'll put more pics in my guitar of the month entry. vote wisely hehe
  7. well its been a long time. the finish has buggered up once more (something reacted with something else and it all cracked) but today have shot what is HOPEFULLY the last of the clear coats. i guess its just a wait and see job - let it harden off and fingers crossed
  8. leave it leave it leave it! thats cool as a naked penguin with sunglasses
  9. after sanding it down i think its more likely that it was the paint shrinking more than the clear - so the maple seemed to be proud of the rest but really it wasnt. iv built up some clear on the maple edges. i'll maybe see about spraying the back again tomorrow.
  10. that would be quite funny if it wasnt me. hehe just spent the last three hours sanding away all the bubbles. seems the wood shrunk a bit too - the sapele more than the maple of course - so iv had to sand down the maple edges. which is good because it gives me the chance to tidy them up a bit - there were a few places with marks or even bits of black on. so thats one good thing thats come out of it.
  11. theres a few patches of tiny bubbles on the front, and the finish has really sunk into the teeny grainn of the maple(!!??) but at least its hard now. lol
  12. well, a lesson for us all, or at least those as stupid as me. always check how hot your heat box gets before sticking your guitar inside it. pic1 pic2
  13. you might have heard about the way nitro reacts with the foam rubber often used on guitar stands etc. these can leave nasty marks on nitro finishes
  14. i would have thought that if you wanted to use the switch for two pickups you'd just put the two pickups to the switch as it is - ie: instead of the one pickup as shown in the diagram, two would be there, with the correspondig wires from each going to the same place
  15. it must be just the weather, as iv done nothing different to my last one, and that was fine (in the summer) using the same brand and the same spraying technique. anyway, iv knocked up a little box today and just need to get a couple of light fittings and i'll be able to use that. hopefully it'll do the trick. i've already redesigned the headstock for the next one (if there is a next one) so that the g string doesnt have to have a guide. if there is a next one, it will be the single cut version, which im quite looking forward to doing. hopefully this one will sell. when its finally done
  16. ok, so its not gonna be finished today after all. the damn thing still hasnt hardened off yet and its been on about three weeks (!!??). so i think im gonna have to make some kind of heat box or something, make a wooden box and stick a four or six light bulbs in it or something. its pretty much doing my head in. o well. i part wired the electrics which is all i can do for now. i really need a compressor so i can stop with these damn spray cans
  17. you would only need one dpdt switch for series/parallel. you could use the other for phasing. heres a diagram, dont know where you'd put it in your schematic though. maybe someone else can help with that bit diagram
  18. yeah i'll have to remember to clean all the gunk out of the cavities (just the residue from flatting it). the finish is just acrylic from spray cans - dont have a compressor yet. there are some cosmetic mistakes with this one, mostly because i've never done anything like this before, but overall im pretty happy with it. hopefully someone will buy it so i can get started on its single cut big sister
  19. last few bits should arrive tomorrow, so it should be done by then or thursday. today i finally flatted and polished it, and made a new control cover out of black. just wiring and assembly left. front back
  20. i did the red with a cardboard cutout of the shape i wanted it in and had that about 15-20mm off the body as i sprayed the red. then just sanded away any splodges of red that got underneath it. you can do whatever colours you wanted on it, i just happened to have some metallic red enamel paint so i used that. it's glossy (or it was before i 'reliced' it) because i put clear coat over it to protect the design. you could have it matt or glossy, depending on what paint you used. this is how it is now. for better or worse. o well. o, and you'll definately want to put a couple of coats of clear on the scratchplate. i did and the paint is beginning to wear off a little after about five or six years, so without it it wouldnt last very long.
  21. i did this on a white squier strat (obviously i had to add the red too) i just used car touch up paints, with enamel for the little red/pink bits (heart etc). i would recommend giving it a coat or two of clear after though, to prevent what you do from chipping off. if you do give it a clear coat after, rub the guitar with some very fine sandpaper or wire wool (at least 1000) before you do your design giving the clear something to stick to
  22. its easy enough to do without one (and i cant find one either). just use the original strat wiring (here) and for two of the pickups, place the phase reverse diagram between the pickups and the switch/pot. so the pickups will go to the phase switch, then the five way.
