  1. Hey everyone! New to the forum, can't wait to get started! I just received my third ever kit in the mail on Saturday, and couldn't wait to bust it open. I purchased a zebra wood (not true zebra wood, according to, their website it's cottonwood and treated for the striping) P Bass style build from Pitbull Guitars. My plan is to avoid covering the striping with any stain or paint, and just use Crimson Guitars penetrating oil, and possibly a couple of coats of their high build finishing oil for a little more gloss. You can see in the pictures the head stock was fairly unshaped, so using a coping saw and a lot of sanding I was able to get it to look like a reverse Firebird head stock. The neck will be stained using Wudtone's vintage yellow stain and top coat. The plan is also to make a custom logo. Since the wood is zebra wood, and the bass is a P Bass, I'm going to call it the Z Bass. I would like to somehow incorporate the letter Z from Zelda cover pages and find a font for the word bass to match it as best as possible. I am also considering swapping the white pick guard that came with the kit for a clear pick guard to show off more of the striping. I'm a bass player, so I wanted this to be a higher quality than my last two builds, so I purchased an upgraded wiring kit, one for better sound, and two because it's way prettier than any wiring I could do left to my own devices in case I purchase the clear guard. I think that might be it for now, can't wait to hear any feedback or possible ideas!
