  1. I think I'll go with the veneer. Never had any experience with it before so it'd be good to be around it. Any advice on where I can get smaller sheets without having to buy a full sheet? Since I won't be needing very much.
  2. http://s81.photobuck...ent=Fender2.jpg http://s81.photobuck...ent=Fender1.jpg I painted this guitar 4 or 5 years ago and my dog decided to use it as a chew toy so now I'm going to repaint it. I've used wood filler and bondo on guitars before but never had to fill any 'gaps' this big before. Any advice on what you would do? Thanks.
  3. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. My guitar doesn't use a peizo.
  4. Ran into new problem. Now there is no buzz unless I touch the strings or something metal. Did a little reading on it and saw that this can happen when the output jack wires get reversed and it's not that. Any ideas?
  5. You do have the right meter, but it only shows "1" (and the different decimal places) when I touch them to anything on the guitar. Only time I can get anything except that is when I touch the two probes together, it shows zero so I know it's working.
  6. One more question, to make me sound even more dumb. What do you mean by lead tip and lead sleeve?
  7. Also, if I hold the metal part of the cord the buzzing stops. If that helps any. Thanks
  8. Ok, so I've ran into a few of problems. If you can help with any of them PLEASE do. 1) I've had a multimeter for a while but never learned how to use it. I've Googled and searched but can't find anything that I understand. It's all way too in depth. I have the Innova 3300, if anybody can help me understand how to use it for what I need done it'd be much appreciated. 2) I soldered the ground wire again just to make sure it was connected good, now I only get a buzz when I touch the volume (without the knob, cause I apparently lost it). The potentiometer also has just a little scratchy sound when adjusting the volume but it's brand new from Fender. What could cause that? 3) There is also another bare wire coming from the pickup that's not in the diagram above. There's red & white soldered together, green soldered to the potentiometer, black soldered to far left terminal (back view), here's a diagram that does show the bare wire. There's a lace to have a ground screwed into the body and there's a also a place to run a ground under the bridge. Should the bare wire from the pickup be ran under the bridge? Wiring Diagram #2 I've never had this much trouble before and it's getting frustrating. Thanks ahead for any help.
  9. It did come that way stock, when I thought it might be the potentiometer I put a new one in and had to rewire it all. I don't have a multimeter handy. I'm in collage so it's back home but luckily tomorrow's payday and I can get another one. Thanks for the help, I'll give an update after I get a chance to see what it is.
  10. I was wiring in a new killswitch (I've already done one before on the same guitar). It's the Tom Delonge Fender Stratocaster. One pickup and one volume knob. I wired it just like the Fender site says to.Wiring Diagram I wired the killswitch with one side to the ground and one side to the middle prong of the potentiometer. All I got was a lot of buzz and feedback. I bought a new pot and the same thing. Anybody aware of what it could be?
  11. I've just routed a recessed Floyd Rose from a standard tremolo for a friend. Is there a website that sales the fabric pieces that's glued to the body along side the studs and in the recessed part of the guitar? Or is it a type of fabric I can just buy at Wal-Mart and cut to fit? Or is it even necessary? Thanks.
  12. I'm definitely gonna practice first. I have a lot of spare wood. I looked on the StewMac site and I didn't see the video on there. I'm sure it'd help a lot, I bought there's on finishing and it answered a lot of questions. Thanks.
  13. I've fixing a guitar for a buddy of mine that had a tremolo on it but broke. I'm installing a Floyd Rose for him but it needs some routing. My dad has a router and I've already ordered the bit and template from StewMac. My question is, when routing a body that already been painted is it likely the paint could chip off in places? Are there any precautions I should take? I've worked on guitars, painted a few, and done maintenance for a good while now. I've never routed though, figure I have to start somewhere though. And also, it'll need a little routing on the headstock for the nut. Is there a template or another post talking about that. I couldn't find one. I guess knowing the guitar could help but I'm actually not sure what it is. It says Epiphone By Gibson on the headstock. Has a Strat style pickguard and two humbuckers. Never seen one like it before. Thanks.
  14. I know this doesn't "exactly" refer to a guitar but I think it's close enough for the site. I recently painted my mic stand white to match my guitar. I used the Dupli-Color aerosol. I realize that's not the exactly the best paint to use, but I thought it'd do the job with enough clear coats. After painting it, I'm pretty sure I'm wrong. It looks good now cause we haven't had any shows yet but when it gets thrown around that paints gonna chip. The stand is made of metal so I thought auto body paint might be the best thing to use. Does anybody know of any paints that can take a beating? I have a spray gun and compressor so it doesn't have to be aerosol. Thanks.
  15. I'm painting my mic stand white to match my guitar and I noticed after I'd already put on the first coat of clear that one piece is not completely white. Can I spray another color coat over the clear, then go back and finish up with the clear coats? I'm just using regular Dupli-Color spray paint.
  16. I'm not sure. Probly rosewood.
  17. Is there a place where I can buy the wood like would be on a neck for pretty cheap to practice doing inlays on before I try it on an actual guitar?
  18. I mean flat as in no gloss. Could I just wetsand the gloss off and not buff it? Or what way would be better?
  19. What's the best way to get a flat finish with the paint that you can get from Stewmac?
  20. Can I just paint over the binding on a guitar ?
  21. I done the same thing you're doing about a year ago with my Tom Delonge Strat. I did spend more money and bought the tape that stewmac sells (www.stewmac.com) about finishing guitars. And then to buy all the paint that they use will burn a hole in your pocket but it was worth it to me. If I knew how to put a pic I would post one.
  22. I would think about doing that, but I plan on refinishing it and putting a logo that says Custom or something like that on it. And I don't wanna have to do that the sanding that comes with that if it's possible for me to buy one. Thanks for the reply though.
  23. I bought an Encore guitar from a friend to refinish. The neck has too many dents and dings to repair and I want to make it as close to a Gibson as possible. The only places I can find that have pre made guitar necks only have strat and tele style headstocks. I found a store on Ebay that has Gibson headstock templates but I'd rather by a pre made if at all possible. Any help?
