Thank you so much everyone

yes, they're kind of similar as both countries have German as their native language.

thank you guys
@Bizman62: You have Austrian relatives?
Mixing Tru Oil yourself is a great idea. I'll try that once I run out. Thank's for the tip.Different colors to accentuate the wood: I've seen some of that in a video from the PRS factory, and also on the BIGDGUITARS youtube channel. I might try that in the future

It took me so long to edit the video, that these bass kits have been discontinued by now
Some Details about the build:
It's a ESB-4 Semi Hollow Bass by Pitbull Guitars
Clear Coat: Nitro Cellulose Lacquer Spray Cans (I've used the ones from Northwest Guitars, but any brand will probably do) Tru-Oil finish on the neck Wood Dye: Keda Wood Dye Kit for the orange / dartfords Blue Metal Complex Wood Dye PowderPictures:

I should definitely go find some nice red pants and a yellow shirt.
Also, I like the first pickguard more than the leopard one.
Regarding the last 3 pickguards: I guess it's a question whether or not these designs can be found as an uncut sheet, so you can cut out your special pickguard shape

Hello Everyone,
this guitar is a work in progress. But here's what happened so far:I got the kit from flaxwood.com directly (from Finland), which means that it comes without frets, inlays and headstock decals.
Actually, it would even come without a trussrod and you need to glue on the fretboard and saw the fret slots. But the Flaxwood staff took care of that for some extra charge.
Also, my body is for a wraparound bridge, and modded for HSH pickups (usually the wraparound bridge version would be HH).In the USA there is byoguitar.com selling these, usually. Right now the Flaxwood kits disappeared from the webshop, but maybe that's due to supply issues at the moment.
Here are some pictures:
The kit and the HW I want to use:
Backside of the kit (the body is hollow, otherwise it'd be quite heavy):
special neck joint:
putting on the pickups etc. on to see what it looks like:
These parts were poured into a mold and have seams which you need to sand out:
After gluing in the neck, I put some glue into the crease between the neck and the body:
I've used a glue that dries very hard, so I could sand it flush:
It's to make it feel as if it's one piece.
The color shifting flakes I want to use require a black base:I was searching for very long to find a "green to orange" flip paint. But I found nothing. In the end I stumbled upon flakes that are intended for fingernails.
I'm using gold size to apply them to the guitarRight now it's only missing some flakes on the back.
This is what it looks like for now:Next steps:
Apply the flakes on the back
find a clear coat that doesn't make the flakes look dull
Pour in inlays with epoxy and black mica
Install frets, HW etc.
Record a song with itI've also put together a video of the build so far:
-
absolutely incredible pieces of koa, and you finished it so well, very good finishing around the edges of all these parts.

^^thank you
And here she is:
I've also put together a video of the whole process, with a sound demo and also an overproduced song at the end:
https://youtu.be/lEKFaflA2CQ
Editing this video actually took longer than putting together the guitar xD
I've made all kinds of mistakes with the paintjob... but that gives it the homemade appeal
Sound and playability is top notch though. The roasted maple neck has 2 thin layers of Tru Oil, it feels really amazing. Roasted maple with a super thin finish might be the nicest feeling neck.
Some people leave them completely unfinished, but the tru oil makes the color of the wood much more intense.
I'm very happy. Next I'll try if a roller bridge is an improvement or not.

^^thank you
Some more progress:
Got this decal and I cut out just the outline
To apply it like this:
Decal on the headstock (my name is "Georg" and it's a Jaguar guitar.... lame joke )
This is how I fixed the Pickguard (I couldn't find one for HSS, so I modified a HH pickguard). Once it's all put together, with strings etc. it won't be that noticable.
I've used a real orange to decide on the paint (at the front is a paper I've sprayed the orange on, as a test): -
Hello Everyone,
it was time to make my dream Jaguar a reality.
Some specs:
Warmoth roasted swamp ash body and a roasted maple neck
A blue perloid pickguard.
Fender Locking Tuners
And otherwise, it's the hardware that Warmoth is selling. The tremolo they have is supposedly made by Gotoh.
Bareknuckle Mother's Milk single coils
Seymour Duncan SH-12 Custom Custom Humbucker
I wanted to paint the body orange, but since the Roasted Ash has a really nice wood grain, I added a fake f-hole in the front and a hexagon pattern on the back to show off the wood grain.
Some pictures:
At the beginning
Testing the hexagon pattern:
Masking:
Hexagon back:
My grain filling has room for improvement:
Modifying the control plate to fit a 5 way switch:
I've filled the unneeded holes with blue epoxy (and with blue backing paper glued to the back)
Mistakes so far: I could have done the grain filling a lot better. But there's always a next time

just read through the whole thread
this is one of the most impressive guitar builds I've ever seen. Absolutely incredible woodwork.

when the carve comes out great, it's very rewarding though
Seems to be already a potent entry for the build off

seems like 2023 will be a year for masterpieces
My 2022 was a bit of a filler year, a "get things ready for 2023"-year. Where I got my first "kind of" workshop ready with a spraying booth.
