  1. Here's the EMG 81, I can't really tell where the big difference is? It's missing the diode at the 9V connection but that doesn't affect the operation, it's just a safety feature. Or the electrosmash version, still essentially the same circuit? You feed the humbucker coils to pins 3 and 2 and feedback the output to pin 2.
  2. I don't really understand what difference is there with a booster vs. an amplifier? Afaik a differential amp looks at the input signal voltage and the 9V supply voltage and tries to make the output a difference of those? Ie. boosting the signal. But, I'm not trying to copy emg's since, why would I? They've already been made for decades with great success. I'd just buy EMG's then without all this hassle. Just having fun with circuits mostly to see what comes out of it.
  3. Yeah I've seen that. We'll leave that to semantics as to how far away from the pickup can the preamp be for it to still be an active pickup.
  4. Noisy at least! But I'll see if it's usable. I have some 4250 in the mail too. Btw. all active pickups are just passive humbuckers plus a preamp board. Where the point lies is that you can get away with lower wind counts and other features that would not work with a passive pickup, resulting in a very low output.
  5. I'm just messing with components, nothing is set in place. Also considering NS4110B or RC4558. Just what I have readily available. EMG is afaik LM4250?
  6. Well as I thought it would go, once I transfer the pickup, it stops working. Back to troubleshooting

At least it's making noise when I wiggle a string over the pickup. Now I'll just need to transfer this mess to a guitar, hopefully later today if I have time.
  8. Not much happening, cut the bevels and roundover. Waiting for templates for the floyd route. Decided to go for stewmac templates since getting all these different cavities right first try ever with a printout, not so sure I'd get them all aligned correctly.
  9. I took the biggest enclosure since I was worried if the components would fit, the webstore didn't have dimensions for the slanted portion. Overshot it "a little".
  10. Here's the (almost) finished article. Had to hide my shoddy dremel work with the big labeled sticker. Only needs the screws to connect the guide arm. Box is "sligthly" oversized.
  11. More progress, just making it up as I go. Decided to make the worm holes to glow worms.

  13. I can see one possible problem with that. The slot could become larger than the string you have on the saw, like this, since I doubt anyone has laser precision with a hand saw. Maybe if you do one pass and no more.
  14. Yeah I cut down to a rectangular flat slot, then glued a new piece of padauk to that.
  15. I guess I'll pore fill with shellac then. Also, well shit Fix doesn't look too awful from a distance. I guess. It's a personal guitar so I'm fine with that.
  16. I don't mind darkening, it'll fit better with the korina. How about ca fill, then tru oil? My usual go to, and I have it already. Lacquer I'd need to order from somewhere, and I don't have the space or tools to spray so it'd be something like britetone. I'd prefer to have a natural look, tru oil gloss is the most I'd go with.
  17. How do you like to finish padauk? I believe it needs something like maple?
  18. Fret slots done, routed the top edge of the fretboard flush to the template, the bottom I'll do against the neck once it's glued on. Gouged some material out from the neck and heel.
  19. And after the incident... moving on Some rough cleaning later. Can't decide if I'll use this padauk for the fretboard, or order some ebony. But I always use ebony so it's kind of boring.

  21. Exactly, hence the remark hand tools are more dangerous. Since you get complacent with them too easily.
  22. Here's how it started Here's how it's going Hand tools are much more dangerous than power tools it seems. Managed to hold onto the work piece and saw into my hand with the other side of the pull saw. Needed two stitches. Good thing about hand tools though, you very quickly stop doing further damage!
  23. Wire and truss channel routed, glued the wings on. We'll see if I'll regret doing it this early.
  24. Got the wood finally. Some flame going on on the wing pieces too.
