A few year ago not having the money to buy a sustainer guitar I managed to track down a second hand Fernandes FSK101 kit to fit into my kit built Strat copy. When I routed the recesses out I’d left things a bit tight so in a moment of madness decide to dispense with the small connecting plugs and solder the wires directly to the sustainer board. The soldering iron was too hot and melted the tracks away. So that was the end of that. A year later I found another kit and (after routing a bit more space) fitted it successfully. It does what it should and I’ve been using it since.
The thing EATS batteries though. I’ve tried several types of rechargeable’s but none have much of a life. Don’t even bother with the ones with a USB socket. The interference is terrible.
So I wondered if I could power this thing with a wallwart .
I don’t really want to mess with what isn’t broken though so I gave up on the idea and stocked up with duracells.
Then I found a sustainer that was worth trying for the price (£15). No driver but I still have the driver from my first failed attempt.
Plus I have an old strat copy (cheetah)from a charity shop I don’t mind experimenting on. If this works I’ll put it in something better.
The thing is although I can follow a drawing I know nothing about the theory of any of this.
I’ve spent a couple of days trying to draw it out but apart from making it look pretty I’ve reached a dead end when it comes to the volume, tone pot, and switch connections and indeed which switch and pot sizes to use.
