  1. should be good- it was properly clamped. thanks. i just worried that there might be some rule about 12strings and scarfs
  2. Hey everyone- im back from a long break (too much school work) and ive got a question about the 12-string neck thru im working on. Ive used a scarf joint at the head, with an overlap of 1.25", and im trying to decide if i need to drill in through the joint from the face of the head to stick in some dowels. The neck and head are both maple. Is this joint likely to hold without dowels? Ive put significant force on it, and it seems sturdy. Thanks!
  3. Hey guys its been a month and a half since I posted this Q, and Ive done much research but im still not sure as to the answer. Any help would be great! Thanks ps im starting my birdseye maple 12 string, and im sure this forum will save me just as much as it did on my first guitar!
  4. hey everyone i was just wondering how the grain filling procedure is changed when you're using maple veneer, and what you do to prevent sanding through it after filling and sealing, etc. thanks a lot!
  5. Hi! Ive been looking around a bit, and what ive noticed is that birdseye maple only has birdseyes on two of its faces, so it seems like quartersawn birdseye maple would not show eyes. If this is true, then how are birdseye maple necks usually made? Are they just flatsawn, or do the eyes indeed show when it is quartersawn. Thanks a lot!
  6. i still dont understand what keeps the dremel from tilting and angling the channel, since there's not much resting on the body as a base
  7. might as well post a link, i suppose binding router guide from stewmac
  8. Hello! have any of you ever used that aluminum binding router guide from stewmac? it would be a well priced alternative to my method, but from the picture it looks like it would be very unstable and inaccurate. does it work well? are there similarly priced alternatives that work better? Thanks a lot!
  9. Yea i looked, but its just one bridge, those individual tuners, and i didnt see a nut. i meant is there some sort of... 12stringguitarparts.com, or something..lol
  10. hi! ive been reading up on blend pots, and im confused about one thing. i understand that in the center position a blend pot allows both signals to pass fully, but does this cause the volume to increase in this position when you have a blend pot hooked up to a bridge and neck pickup? I was just curious whether or not having both signals pass fully means the overall volume is increased (would this not cause the volume to swell when the knob is adjusted?). Thank you very much!
  11. hey everyone- ive finished my guitar (which, without your help, probably would have had the wide frets at the body end and narrow ones at the top, or something) , and im ready to begin shopping for my 12 string project. ive yet to find a website with a good supply of 12 string parts. they seem very scattered over the internet. is there any site anyone would recommend? im looking for bridges, nuts, you kno, the usual. thanks a lot!
  12. i was considering use as 1/4" neck laminates
  13. Thanks My laziness has steered me in the right direction once again
  14. Hi everyone im still confused about belden cable. my understanding was that you wire the outer braid to ground, and that if you dont do that the braid does nothing to prevent hum. also, on the stewmac site it recommended using the belden cable for the bridge ground wire. In such a connection it seems like the center wire would be used for ground, and the outer braid would have no purpose. So why use belden cable for ground? (i know im wrong, im just expressing my confusion)! thanks
  15. I was just reading about this wood called Ipe that is three times stronger than oak. Supposedly it it hardly warps at all. I began to think about its possibilities in a guitar. I would probably be too heavy to make a solid neck out of it. Has anyone ever experimented with an ipe neck, or ipe neck laminates? Just curious
  16. That's what i just bought! Funny you mention the fretboard. I never would have thought of it, but that's the first thing my friend came up with when i told him the VU idea. Thanks for the input
  17. Thanks. Well,, I know the output has to run to the in of the unit, but i wasn't sure if the unit's out has to run to the phono jack. Of course this could very well sound completely stupid to someone who knows what they're doing. So anyway, any advice?
  18. Hey, is there any particular way I should wire this to ensure that it doesn't disrupt the guitar's sound? Like, should the guitar output run through it, or should it be a separate branch of the output? Also, if i add a 2PDT will I need to add any resistors to prevent popping? Could I just use a regular toggle switch instead? Is there a way I can wire it so it doesn't effect the guitar's sound, and doesn't need shielding?? Thanks s lot!
  19. Yeah, i ordered some green and some yellow LEDs to replace some of those. Most of the other meters available are already colored, but i bought this one because of the preamp. thanks for the help ansil
