  1. It doesn't seem like Elmer's would work on metal, though.
  2. Here I go with another glue question- What type of glue would one generally use to install a brass Gibson style nut? Thanks!
  3. Thanks a lot! Im surprised more people don't visit the electronics forum
  4. Thanks! Do you by any chance have an estimate of the gap size? Anyone else have tricks?
  5. Thanks, but the nut is already slotted. My question was in regard to the height of the entire nut in relation to the fretboard. I want to know how much to file down the nut
  6. Hi! I had asked about grounding a hollowbody, since there's no isolated electronics compartment to cover in copper tape. bluespresence told me to use a Belden Cable, but I was wondering if I have the shielded cable from Stewmac if that would be substantial, or if I could purchase some sort of tubing through which to run them? Thanks a lot!
  7. Hi! I know there are millions of posts on string height, but I couldn't find one that answered my question. Just humor me. Is there a general rule for string height at the nut, and is there a way to install the nut at the correct height without stringing up? (i.e. distance from fretboard to bottom of low and high E slots, etc.) Thanks a lot
  8. I have to agree with daveq on some of the design aspects. Though the design has grown on me, the ashtray bridge and giant chrome control plate seem excessive. If someone makes a guitar that sounds like a tele with an innovative design, sign me up!
  9. Yeah, I'm a tele fanatic, so I would have to go with that. You probably know this already, but the tele is geared toward a little bit more of a twangier sound than the strat. In my opinion, the sound of the thinline tele is godlike, and if you could find a way to simulate or enhance that sound it would be impressive. I'm a huge fan of thinlines. Good luck with your project!
  10. Hi! If you're experienced, go ahead and ignore me, but if you're feeling unsure, you might want to try a semihollowbody. The advantage of that is you can carve out the inside of a solid piece of wood rather than having to worry about bracing. You can just leave a thin border around the edges, and a center block of wood running the length of the body right down the middle, similar to a neck thru. Then you just glue on the top. In my opinion they are easier to make, and I prefer the style because it's light and cool like a hollowbody but shares some of the tonal qualities of a solid body.
  11. Hi! I was wondering how wide the center block of wood on my semihollowbody should be. If I were to make it wide enough to completely enclose the pickups and allow the tuneomatic bridge to be bolted in, it would need to be 3 1/2". That just seemed a little wide, and I was wondering what most people do. Should I just make it around 2" and have the pickup cavities hang out over the sides a little bit? Does anyone have any idea what Im talking about? Thanks a lot !
  12. Yeah, I can just imagine the pain of assembling the electronics through the hole. Im all for peace.
  13. Thanks, thats good to know. Anyone have any thoughts on the isolated control compartment idea?
  14. Hi! This is probably a dumb question, but what does one generally do about grounding on a hollowbody? I know the procedure on an electric is to cover the electronics compartment in copper shielding tape, but obviously there's no compartment on a hollowbody! I'm making one by carving out the inside of a solid piece, so would it be wise to leave a thin wall surrounding the electronics to create an isolated compartment? Has anyone tried that sort of thing? Thanks a lot!
  15. I was talking about a 3 fret hangover on an electric. Since the neck is finished, though, it's too late to rout a dovetail
  16. I hate to throw up consecutive posts, but here goes... What kind of glue do you use when inserting fretwire? I'm afraid gorilla glue will expand to much and flow out the sides
  17. has anyone ever heard of a butt joint used on a neck body joint (the kind where the fretboard hangs over the top), or would that snap like a twig? Do you have to use a dove tail? Im kinda in a tough spot, with the truss rod already glued in and the neck completely assembled. What about a dowel joint?
  18. Those sound good. I actually have the Stewmac fret slotting box, but I hadn't heard about the plexi things. I guess ill try that next time. Ill post pics soon!
  19. Hi everyone! How do you guys check the depth of your fret slots after radiusing and deeping to make sure that they're not too shallow? Does it matter if they're extra deep as long as it doesn't structurally weaken the truss rod mechanism? I'm about to glue on binding, and of course then there's no turning back. any tips? Should I put in the fretwire before I glue on the binding? Thanks a lot! Happy new year (im a little late, but it is my first post of the year!)
  20. Thanks guys! That was EXACTLY what I was looking for!
  21. Hi everyone! I'm hoping to make a few wooden templates to check the shape of the back of the neck at different points along the neck while I'm shaping it. Does anyone know where I could find the pattern to make such templates? I'm having trouble copying the shape from my guitar. Thanks!
