  1. Craig, every time you post images of your work, it seems to get better and better. btw, I always thought that turquoise was about halfway between green and blue.
  2. It's possible if they put in the wrong capacitor value, or if the capacitor value is way out of its tolerance range, or if it's defective, or if it has a bad solder joint.
  3. It's either that or just very poor quality pots whose resistance curve is just way off.
  4. I've never heard of or experienced this either and believe me, we have winter in Montreal, Canada. Maybe it doesn't get as dry here during the winter as it does elsewhere? But I would figure that a properly grounded guitar would constantly be discharging any static to ground before it has a chance to build up... unless you're using EMG's which don't require grounding the bridge. Is this the case?
  5. Are you saying that it's buzzing on the first fret while playing open strings, or that it's buzzing when you fret it on the first fret?
  6. One small note... If you haven't bought your humbucker yet, you might as well get an F-spaced one. The poles are slightly more spread out than standard spacing. Most humbuckers are available in both standard and F-spaced. Single coils are only made with F-spacing. You probably already know this , but just in case...
  7. By pre laquer do you mean pre-clear and want to know what to use as a clear coat? I'm asking because your question wasn't clear. (Sorry for the pun.)
  8. The schematic is on the Ibanez website here: http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=2002&w=JS1000
  9. You're overlooking one thing, though. Microphonics aren't the only thing to consider in the vibration of the pickup. Since the pickup signal is a result of the string moving through the pickup's magnetic field, relativity dictates that the signal is also a result of the pickup's magnetic field moving across the string. For example, if you could shake a pickup side-to-side across a stationary string 440 times per second, the pickup would generate a signal of an A note. So even if you play a single note on a guitar, the vibration of the wood will vibrate the pickup, the pickup and its magnetic field will vibrate across all six strings, and this will be added to the final guitar signal. Whether it's significant enough is debateable but there is more than just inherent pickup microphonics to consider.
  10. $79 for a Super70 pickup? I have an Ibanez lawsuit Les Paul copy that I bought in 1976 that has Super70 pickups. The whole guitar was $200 cdn new back then.
  11. Yes, it will sound like when the tone control is turned up to the brightest setting, probably even slightly brighter. Yes you can but there are 2 things to consider: 1. The volume pot for humbuckers is usually 500K. For single coil pickups, it's usually 250K. Using a higher value makes the sound a bit brighter. 2. Volume pots are usually log taper while tone knobs are linear taper. You can use linear for volume but the volume will change at a different rate as you turn the knob. Not the end of the world. The log (or audio) taper pot is usually recognized by the letter A after the resistance value whereas the linear pot will have the letter B.
  12. Actually, I was lucky enough to see Wooten do it live in concert. Pretty tight trick, but it can't be overused. Anyway, Vic doesn't needstage gimmicks. not to imply that it's cheap, but he's a good enough bassist that he can do without. Wooten also does this other thing where the bass stays there but he spins around. I saw the Flecktones at the Montreal Jazz Fest and just love their sense of humor.
  13. ***? on topic: I think most people use an airbrush. Unless you're electroplating your finish, why did you post this in the electronics forum.
  14. Yeah, Yngwie did it several times at the G3 show. I think Victor Wooten also did it with his bass.
  15. Guitarfrenzy, I'm sorry if it looked like I was judging you. I was just pointing out the obvious flaw in your statement. I'm not knowlwdgeable enough about this issue to judge anyone or to even have an opinion on the subject.
  16. By buying it , you're creating more demand for it so they have to cut down more to replenish their stock. It's simple economics. You must surely be aware of this unless you're going the "eyes wide shut" route.
  17. But potatoes is spelled with an "e".
  18. I have too much time on my hands, eh.
  19. The nukes go to Texas and a super deadly flue virus to the north for which the Canadians have been immunized. MUAHAHAHAHA! Eh?
  20. how can you be qualified when you obviously are wrong? Obviously wrong only to those who are unqualified to vote on it. touche!but it is still ham I have a confession to make. Canadian bacon is all a plot to confuse the U.S.A. and attract their attention away from our secret stockpiling of WMDs. It all started with Bob and Doug McKenzie's reference to "back bacon" on SCTV so you can only imagine how large our arsenal has grown in all these years. One false move and you're gone. MUAHAHAHAHA... eh!
  21. coming from a british guy?isn't your country the one with 164 cases of mad cow...and over 200,000 people have eaten infected beef? not being mean...i just want to know...because i thought it started in britain Didn't it start with Margaret Thatcher? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
