  1. Hello there long time no post! Ok, so what would be the best way to cut out a pickguard? Im trying to replicate the pickguard to ressemble a marcus miller precision bass pickguard, however the horn will be slightly modified. Thank you, and what would be the best way to grainfill the wood? where would I find such a product?
  2. I don't know what section to put this in but, I must give a lot of thanks to Russ for supplying me with some fine alder and a plain maple top to go with it. He was very reasonable, and I had a pleasure doing business with him. If you ever need to buy some alder online, because there arent any lumber yards that supply those kinds of wood (like me) then he is the man to go to! Thanks again Russ (Prs Man)!
  3. Hey I was looking at some turtle wax polishing compund product, all it said was get rid of fine scratches, but it also said like in bold letters "WHITE", so then I remembered something I read on the forums about different colors signifying different polishes or something? Might be wrong. Something like a red color and a white olor compound? All I know is that the "WHITE" on the bottle means something. Polishing Compound Look at the picture
  4. Im looking to buy some cheap bookmatched flamed maple sets (2 sets). size dosnt matter too much as long as it isnt thicker then 1/4 inch
  5. I'm having a little trouble over here. You see I have a telecaster, with a maple top and a maple back, sandwiched in between is a piece of about 1 1/8" alder. If you can picture this, I want to paint the alder which is between the maple black. and I want to paint the maple top and back, an amber color, to show the figure more, but later ill sand it down to keep the maple color. The problem is, how about shall I do this? which should I paint first? the alder side with ebony minwax polyurethane stain? or should I paint the maple top and botton with amber minwax poly stain? The real problem is that im afraid that even with the help of tape, either stain will seep through and color the wood under the tape. For example, If I decide to paint the alder first and tape the whole body except the alder sides and paint it with ebony stain, will it go through or under the tape, and mess up the maple?
  6. Oh and should I do the staining then the laquer on the alder, or the laquer on the alder then the staining? oh and I would still tape the laquered alder part
  7. Ok, so i'm planning to buy a 2 bookmatched sets of flamed maple. The these sets are each 1/4 inch thick, and are going to sandwich a 1 1/4 inch piece of alder. I want to somehow bring out grain of the flame maple, without altering the color of the maple too much. Also without affecting the piece of alder. I heard that a way of doing this would be to get a water based stain or dye and going over the flamed maple, then after words I would sand it, and that will leave me with the dye only in the grains and it will keep the maple's natural color. What I am afraid of though is that the stain will seep to to the sides of the alder therefor, could effect the black Krylon laquer I am spraying on the alder. Would the best way to cover up the alder, be just by taping it up? Also what are the alternative methods?
  8. 1" because I am putting a top and back onto the guitar that are 5/16 of an inch each.
  9. Hey guys, im looking for a good deal on some wood for my guitar project, I preferably alder, or swamp ash. Also it would have to be planed to 1" Thank you.
  10. Ok can someone move this into the classifies please?
  11. Is anyone interested in selling me some swamp ash wood planned to about 1 inch? Spazzy zone has offered, but I dont think he has logged on since, thanks
  12. Im thinking of making a pickguard for a telecaster instead of buying one. its more for the sake of learning really, and I think that I would get a higher mark since im making the pickguard. Anyways, Is there somewhere where I can get a telecaster pickguard template? I tried to search but there arent any. Thanks EDIT: Nevermind, i found a smaller telecaster template on the Fender site, so I just enlarged it to the correct size. Thanks anyways.
  13. hmmmm ok, what would you recommend to use with the minwax stuff, taht would get me a black finish? Is there some kind of other paint besides laquer? I would try to order online... but I dont think its legal to ship paint for safety reasons.
  14. Ok, can someone move this post to that forum please? I dont want to double post
  15. Yes mickguard, ive searched. Ive always searched before posting. Thats why im confused in the first place. People say that tehres certain laquers theat can be mixed with poly. But then I see people that have been unsuccesful, like I think southpa? the poly just peeled right off the guitar.
  16. Ive run into a problem. I want to paint the side of my tele black, yet I want the clearcoat to be minwax fast drying poly in a rattlecan. But I cant seem to find any sort of black poly urethane. so I think I have to use lacquer. What should I use? ive tried using laquer clearcoat, but ive had bad experiences with it. Ive heard that krylon can go with poly or something?
  17. Thanks you guys very much, all this info is really useful, I went to mmy local musicstore and compared the telecaster template that I printed off (multiple taped pages) the guitartemplate things ( the site with lots of freee CAD guitars) and I compared it to an american telecaster, the body shape is pretty much on the dot, but the pickguard on that is definately off. Just to let you guys know. Thats once more
  18. Hey, thank you as well I have been looking for that template for a long time so thank you VERY much
  19. Yea I got the body shape outline all perfect and all including the nck pocket, but I just dont know how to get the pickup stuff and all perfect :S and I dont have a telecaster. Thanks, and whatabout mds as a subsitute for plexiglass?
  20. Hey can someone please, with a telecaster body that's laying around, (or being built) please help me make my telecaster rout template? You can do this by taking a please of white paper and putting it over your pickups and control cavity and taking a pencil, and shading over it, which leaves a dark line, and then can you scan it and post it here? SOrry I know im asking for a lot, with nothing in return, but this would greatly be appreciated
  21. Where can I get a free template for the pickup and control cavity routs for a telecaster, and also how deep are each of those cavities. Also, im looking to buy a neck (finished or unfinished) for about $175 USD, which companies should I look at? Ive been eying Musikraft because I would prefer to have wizard thin neck. any other companies? Warmoth is a little too expensive though .
  22. Where can I buy a 1" thick bodyblank made out of alder or swampash?
  23. whoops, my mistake, it really says 5/16", so how can I join bookmatching maple tops?
  24. Ok so I was thinking of doing a telecaster out of alder with a flamed maple front and a flamed maple back the place I was buying my flamed maple top from says that it is 6/15" thick. Times that by 2 and that makes 12/15" of an inch thick worth of maple. and then I was planning on buying 1" thick alder. WHich makes my telecaster 27/15" which equals 1.8" thick when a body should be about 1.75" thick. Another option for me would be to get another thinner set of maple top. but I havent found any that has been in my price range. the one im getting is about 25 dollars and the fugure is fine. can someone point me to some thinner cheaper flamed maple tops? Oh and lets say I got some flamed maple that was like 3/15" thick and times that by 2 and add the 1" alder. That would make my body 1.4" thick. which is thinner then the average telecaster. Would it be hard to avoid the obvious problems of running through the wood because of pickup holes and all? Basically is it possible to make it that thin, and is it easy?
  25. It is actually more of a top. and I want it on the back side too. can someone tell me the thickness of a telecaster?
