  1. Hi All,

Here is my third entry, no my fourth I think anyway. This guitar is called the Revelation.

This is the prototype for this model and has been in the works for several years and I finished it in Dec.07

The guitar was scheduled to go to winter NAMM in the AxeTrak booth. As I was doing the final set up on the guitar

I noticed some small cracks in the ebony finger board not what a person wants to see three days before departure. I tried to

salvage the neck but the glue joint would have nothing to do with that notion which left me one option. New neck.

Luckily I had some blanks already glued up, and was able to finish everything up the day before I flew out. :D

The finish is a three color burst starting with lemon yellow, vintage amber, and finally the cherry red. I hope you guys like her.

  2. Can anyone tell me a good reason why it would be a very bad idea to use mother of pearl as a fingerboard? I found an old italian guitar company by the name of Baleani that used mother of pearl over their fingerboards and it looked great. I'm thinking of designing a neck-through with a bit of 50's-60's styling and that mother of pearl would look great. What about laminating it to a traditional fingerboard? what could be some problems with this design? Any thoughts?

    Thanks - Eddie

Well the first thing that comes to mind is that wood expands and contracts at a greater rate than shell, so you might run into a problem there. That said you need to have a very stable fingerboard IE. low moister content to start with. As long as your fingerboard is stable and you think it would make the project a hit why not try it. you just need to keep this guitar from moving from extremes temp and humidity and let it acclimate slowly when moved to a new location as you would any guitar, but this one more so. Ten years down the road you may see a little lifting here and there but nothing that is not a kwik fix.

That's my two cents anyway good luck and have fun with it.

  3. My vote went to Marcovis. I have heard/read that some people on the forum think his guitars are a modified Les Paul. After seeing his instruments first hand, and I have to say that they are quite unique in many ways. The workmanship is awesome, very detailed work.

I love his neck transition it is very sweet and extremely comfortable. Marcovis nice work and a great cause love the woods you used very unique.

  4. I have been woodworking for lets see I just turned 42 and I started at 5 yrs old....... Dam thats a long time ! I have used so many different tools it's not funny. But I am impressed with the rigid line of tools. I have their 6" jointer and two of their plunge router sets. One I leave in my router table and the other I use for all of my hand held work. Much nicer then the porter cable router of the same specs. In fact I bought it first and the dam spindle lock broke after two weeks, so I returned it and got the rigid. It is very smooth in operation and has a handy light to see your work better. It comes with a fixed, and plunge base in a handy soft case/bag. The jointer has worked great and grizzly has a spiral cutter head for it that I would like to get for it. That would be sweet!!!!!!! Anyway thats my two cents.

[Edit: Had to make those first two pics into links; they're really hi-res and massive]

  5. it's the same burst i did on my Revelation. The carved top is going to get black hardware.

Here is a look at the Revelation.........

    rev_body_big_done.jpg

It's a three color burst / Lemon yellow center, vintage amber, and then cherry red...

Hardware on Revelation will be chrome.

  6. Did you sink the TOM so you would not have a neck angle? How does that work out? How does it look once the TOM is installed? I am thinking about doing this on my current project, I was just worried about how it will look once it is installed.

I just like the way it looks with the bridge recessed very clean look.

  7. Here are a few pics of one of the guitars I am currently working on. It's named "Revelation" . The first time a friend of mine saw this body design he said it looked like it was on fire, so I thought I would give it a finish to match.

It has three colors in the burst. First it was shot with lemon yellow, then vintage amber, and Finlay cherry red to finish off the burst. I wanted it to be quite a bit deeper and darker than a traditional cherry burst. I think it came out very nice.

The first three shots were int the shop spray booth and the last was outside. I will post a pic of the back which is all deep cherry red when I get a chance.

    All comments welcome.

So tell me what you think.

  8. I have to say that all the projects this month are awesome each with their own merits. The designs the woods the finishes and the overall composition of the guitars was quite divers. To me thats how we express our art of lutherie. If we all built the same or similar designs how boring would that be. This is truly a great place for the guitar/luther enthusiast. I hope to see more projects in the future from all of you nice job and well done everyone.

the clinic he did at Blue Rock Guitars & More. Extremely nice down to earth guy who is big on

education of music for kids. He was talking about not putting other people down and just do

whatever you want to do and pursue it with all that you are. He wasn't opinionated or thinking

he was God's gift to the music world just another guy, but with a great talent and ability to
