  1. Some more work done today. The body carved and neck attached. Here is a pic as requested on the accent line.
  2. I will try to get you a pic today.
  3. Hi I have not made a bass from this combination of woods before I am hoping to get a good tight but deep bottom end with a smooth top end time will tell but I will certainly let you know how it all works out. I think the contrast between the woods makes it look pretty good no matter what you use it fof bass or guitar.
  4. Hi This is one of my new models in the process of being built. I have several new shapes which I will be building over the next few months any comments more than welcome. The spec. Body wood is Swamp Ash with a Walnut top and black veneer contrast line both from Larry at Gallery. The neck is Wenge and the board is ebony. The bass will have standard ACG spec. More pics at: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/galleryitem.php?ID=90 You can see all the models at www.acguitars.co.uk/specs.php
  5. Hi That is the neck finished. I have used two different lacquers. A 50% sheen lacquer on the headstock which is the same as the body and a 20% sheen lacquer on the rest of the neck. This gives the back of the neck a satin finish which makes it feel really good and fast.
  6. I have my own pickups made for me by Aaron Armstrong Kent's son. The guitar has a good range of sounds. The neck pickup my favourite of the two is full smooth and sweet thinning out nicely when tapped. The bridge has more edge and is quite strat like when tapped.
  7. Many thanks guys for the positive comments.
  8. Hi This guitar is now ready for delivery. You can see more pics and see the full spec at: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/galleryitem.php?ID=89
  9. Hi Just stated to spray Dave's bass. I will pore fill with the lacquer then sand most of it of when I level the finish before the final coats.
  10. Sorry seem to have posted the last reply twice.
  11. Sure...you know, I don't want to seem like I'm coming down hard on you or anything...probably shouldn't type while I'm still drinking my first cup of coffee (usually I don't turn the machine on before the third cup, but today was different). The problem I have with basses is that they really all end up looking so much alike....kind of like the spitup splashes my kids used to make when we started them out on solid foods...although it's true, the bass player in my group is kind of amorphously shaped (well, he's looking more and more like a short bald soccer ball these days) I just wonder why it's so difficult to come up with truly cool bass designs. But then, I'm into a real retro thing, so take my opinions/criticisms with that grain of salt. I mean, my two favorite bass designs are the Hofner Club and the Danelectro Longhorn.
  12. I have had this problem before. I was unawre of Scott's work when the original guitar was produce about 2 years ago. This is just a bass version of one of my existing guitar designs. As it turns out he was influencd by the Warwick Dolphin bass I owned a Dolphin as well. The fact that we both use a reverse of set means there will be comparison but having contacted Scott on another forum he thinks there is very little the same in the 2 designs. As far as I can see because there are a limited number of variables you can use in the design of a guitar which produces a workable instrument all we are all doing is tweaking the general idea. Many thanks for the comments.
  13. Hi Chris The top one is the bass version of the guitar you are talking about. It has to be changed from the guitar in order to get the bass version to balance on the strap. As you say because of this the top horn is more extented on this than on the guitar version. The bottom one is also a bass. I should have said in the original post but I am not very bright.
  14. Hi I am about to build these new models any comments on them would be appreciated.
  15. The Limba came from Larry at http://www.galleryhardwoods.com/ Robert The guitar sits very well in a normal sitting position. I will check today about the classical type and get back to you. Robert Tried out the guitar in classical postion and it works out fine. [

  17. Hi Russ I have used an oil finish on this bass and the Skelf guitar because that is what Shaun wanted. The oil not being a hard cover means that if you ding the bass it is the wood you are denting but if you scratch the oil finish it is very easy to repair. So as with most things there good points and bad. I usually spray AC laquer which is what I have used on most of my instruments. Most of the instruments in my prototype gallery basses and guitars are sprayed with lacquer. The Recurve bass with the camphor top will be sprayed with 50% sheen lacquer on the body and headstock with 20% sheen on the rest of the neck. 18. Hi Ben Thanks for the kind words. The pictures are hosted elsewhere so I hope it will not be a problem. I can't seem to find the rules with regard to posting pics. Cheers Alan

  21. Thanks for the positive comments guys very much appeciated. The impressions on the pickups are less than 0.2 mm you can barely feel them.
  22. I put the bass together today just to check every thing was as it should be. Cut the nut and strung her up. All has went according to plan I will now take it to bits and start the finishing. I am wait ing for the pre-amp I should have some news about that within the next week to ten days it should be worth the wait.
  23. Sweet. What I wouldn't give for a large vertical mill.
  24. Hi I got the frets dressed today and fitted the tuners and my logo.
