  1. This is one of the best places I've found concerning the subject:

A lot of math, theory, and such so be prepared :D. As a side note, if I recall correctly, pickup position matters more the closer you get to the bridge. For example, the difference between the neck and middle pickup would be less than the difference between the middle and bridge pickup. Though, I am not an electronics expert.

  2. That neck looks very nice. Glad to see some more progress.

As far as the screw up goes, if you're cool with that, then gravy. If I were building the guitar, I'd probably just redo it, but that is just how I am. No moral dilemma here.

Besides, if anyone asks about it, just say it was a "custom job" :D.

  3. Man, this is the hardest month I've ever voted in...my top three choices came down to:

skelf - bass: Man, what a great combo of woods and just beautiful craftsmanship. I loved this one.

Digthelows - The Elephanned Prototype: I can't believe this is your first one...great job! The contrast between the walnut and maple is awesome. And the live pics are great too! I am not a fan of fanned frets (no pun intended), but this one is a beauty.

Marcovis - LP: Wow, stunning LP. One of the best I've ever seen put together. I love the finish on it.

Well, I think I'm gonna have to go with the Elephanned Prototype. It was really a tie between the two basses, but digthemlows won me over with the live pics (I love when players build and actually play their instruments) and the fact that this was his first. And...well...I just love walnut and maple :D.

All in all, great work this month by everyone (I loved that acoustic, ron).

  4. got the headstock wings glued on today. i plan on planing the body down on friday. i wish i could do more but i am so busy with school that i have no free time :D

I know how you feel. Oh well, that's not necessarily a bad thing. It'll give you plenty of time to ponder your design and plan :D

Anyway, it looks great so far (I love the grain on that mahogany). Here is some inspiration to hold you over:

  5. Great guitars this month. It's always so hard to choose.

But I am in love with Pukko's guitar. It is just beautiful. It really captures that look I love; the combination of a tried and true "player's" guitar with the really pretty, detailed ones that you see on PG that look like they ought to be in a display case. I could see myself rocking out with it (*hint* *hint* B)).

How does it sound anyway? I've heard a lot of people don't really like the dream 90's, but I am curious what you think.

Anyway, some amazing workmanship this month. I hope I can build like the rest of you guys someday :D:D

  6. Sycamore is less dense than maple, much closer to mahogany actually. Given, this varies piece by piece.

This looks very cool though, I think it'll look great when it's all said and done. What kind of equipment are you putting in it?

(P.S. Are those laminates flush? It may just be the photos, but it seems the mahogany sinks down a little.)
