  1. In the last few days, I've searched on the subject of neck angle and matching top angle on a carved top guitar. I have found a couple of things that didn't jive with each other.

One question I have is this: Does the neck angle carved onto the top of the guitar start at the end of the fretboard, or just past the neck pickup cavity?

Also, am I right in saying that the second angle on the top (pickup angle) is carved from the neck angle line to the bridge? Or is it just in front of the bridge, so the bridge sits on a dead flat area with the tailpeice?

Another Q: On the jigs used to carve the neck angle (Setch's comes to mind), are the beams that the router rides on connected to keep them from splitting apart and dropping the router? Is the best method for using said jig to move from up toward the bridge back, then slide the bars sideways and repeat?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

    Greg

  2. I think it will look good. Sort of PRS-ish, which I like. Is it a left-handed guitar? Thought about which pickups you'll try in it?

A piece of advice: put the tone pot in there whether you use it now or not. If you want to use it later and it isn't there, you'll regret it. I know I would.

Looking forward to more progress reports. Good luck with 'er.

  3. Good looking body for sure. I love teles personally, so I look forward to seeing your finished guitar.

Good choice on the walnut finish btw. I think it's such beautiful wood with a clear gloss finish on it. I've got some big slabs of walnut that I'm going to build with in the future (my dad doesn't know this yet, but he'll come around :D ). Who knows...maybe another tele.

    Good luck with the build.

  4. Another Pukko vote here. All of these guitars are very well done, but the pukko guitar (you need a model name) just leaps off the screen. One of the most attractive guitars I've seen.

Difficult to decide between skelf's bass (because everything he builds is exquisite), marcovis (because the woods and workmanship are so beautiful), and pukko, but his guitar's original yet familiar looks got me.

    Congratulations to all builders.

  5. My plan is for 2 HBs, a 5 way rotary, one volume and one tone. I found this wiring kit and instructions at stewmac. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_p...07.html#details.

The switch gives you these options:

    1. Neck humbucker

    2. Outer coils in parallel

    3. Outer coils in series

    4. Inner coils in parallel

    5. Bridge humbucker

I would also like the option of having both pups on at once. Any advice on how best to do this?

  6. Really nice work on that guitar johnsilver. I'm slowly accumulating parts and wood for a LP style guitar myself, and I'm sure this project and many others will help me immensely. I'll be tuning in here regularly I think.

Just as an aside, because this is Supreme related--and not to hijack your thread--how are the controls installed or replaced in a Gibson LP Supreme? I know the jack has a rectangular opening instead of the usual drilled hole, which would help, but imagine a pot going bad and having to be replaced. Or worse yet, the 3 position switch. Your version uses a control access plate, so you won't have to worry about that, but I'm curious about the Gibson version.
